Looks like IROC is done, for good. They are going to auction (http://www.irocracing.com/) everything off, too bad.

Maybe when IRL or CART folds, someone can buy up that equipment and then have IROC in open wheel ground effect cars. Might make it a bit more exciting instead of the "Lets watch NASCAR guys do the same thing while the other drivers try to figure out drafting and bump drafting Race of Champions."

I don't think many open wheel cars would make it to finish line, but that would be great to watch. :)

give them all madones and set them on the track...that'd be entertaining.

12 guys, sitting in lawn chairs on a race track, drinking beer and smoking Winstons, next to a pile of Madones is not gonna get very good TV ratings. Maybe if they were getting jumped by Monster Trucks?

IROC has not really been a viable race/series since the early eighties. Ever since they began running all the IROC races on nascar ovals. It really became more about just getting champions from other forms of motorsports to show up at the venue. It was very cool at one time to see F1, Indy car, Nascar, Rally car greats etc... race against one another in identical cars at places like Riverside, but it became a sideshow the last few decades. I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did.

Meh. It's good to see the welfare system will finally go to a good cause.

What's the Race of Champions that doesn't suck? The one they ran in rally cars?

You really should stop thinking. Nothing good can come from it.

I thought NASCAR WAS IROC.

IROC followed the NASCAR circuit and had a quite a few drivers from NASCAR that raced in the series, so it would be easy to think it was just another NASCAR race. But as a previous poster pointed out there was time when the IROC series held its own.

jsharr

IROC was a series where past champions of different racing classes, often run in very different types of cars, could compete in identically prepared cars that were supplied by the series, not the driver, thus hoping to create a more level playing field.

Over the years, the type car and the tracks chosen by IROC varied a bit, but typically, they used closed wheel cars and ran on oval tracks at venues where NASCAR was running.

I think the format put the drivers that came from open wheeled, non drafting, road course type driving at a disadvantage, as they were being put into closed wheel cars where drafting was critical.

you really need a mini truck if you want to be a redneck mullet. Camaros are nice, but they are starter mullet cars. Trucks show your senior level mullet status.

No, but we could race here, (http://www.motorsportranch.com/) a little closer to home.

I need to start at the beginning and get all the basics down first, ya know.
BTW, what brand of brewsky goes best with mah camaro?

whatever is on sale at the quickie mart. the mullet has no brand loyalty, unless it is a nascar mullet. If you are in a camaro, you would be a chevy nascar mullet. so you will need to drink Bud this year, to support Dale Jr.

Dale Jr is no longer sponsored by Bud, you will have to drink AMP if you want to support Jr.
