Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - A Few Questions..

I recently tore down a 02 Raleigh International to build up my new road bike. I have a Bianchi Pista fixie, but was looking to build up the Raleigh as one too. I have the wheels... well just not built up. Open pro's laced up to new Surly Hubs. My question is, I know it can be done, do you just bolt down the hubs, or is there some part I need? Also, should I get a singulator or just adjust my chain to be the right length....


Yes I'm confused. But I love my fixie and want another.. until I decide to build this bike up again to a road.

Just bolt them on, but you need dropouts that are horizontal or semi-horizontal. You can't use a singleator or tensioner on a fixed gear, only for a single speed conversion. If you have vertical dropouts, you could build a wheel w/ the new white industries ENO eccentric hub so you can tension the chain. You probably wouldn't have a hard time selling the new Surly wheel.

I thought the ENO was a 135 width hub. Will that work with your setup? If so then yea, you can go fixed with an ENO. You rich bastard. :)

yeah, the ENO comes in 126, 130 and 135mm
