Road Cycling - motobecane

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Motobecane is not what it once was, business wise at any rate. I had an old Moto - 12 speed - good bike. Today's bike is made in the Pacific Rim. The frame is the question - and whoever makes it probably manufactures for other brands. You can get whatever componentry you like which is probably half the cost of the bike. I think you probably get your money's worth.
I saw a full Ultergra one with a carbon for at bikesdirect.com for like 900 dollars, or a full 105 for 800 bukcs. I was wondering the same thing. How are they?

I've never seen a bad review of one. Bikesdirect is part of the same company that now owns the brand name and puts it on generic Asian frames. If anyone has had a frame failure I haven't seen a posting about it since these bikes started showing up two or three years ago.
There's no reason a generic Asian frame can't be a perfectly acceptable performer.
If you're not local to the chain ("Cycle Spectrum"? I think that's it) that's also owned by the same people and sells the bikes, the biggest issues will be fit, proper assembly and wheel preparation, and warranty support. I would suggest that these might not be a good buy for someone new to road bikes and with no wrenching skills (or tools).

thanks for the replies but i am indeed completely new to road bikes. i'm looking at the super mirage because it goes for about 350 on ebay and i need to make sure i'm going to ride a bike enough to be worthy of spending tons of money on one. i would also like to ride in the rain occasionally since i live in oregon.
