OK I should have done this before the fact but I have decided to build a cyclocross bike. It has been hard to find a build guide or for that matter details on what parts work with what. So far I have the frame 56 cm trek X1 cyclocross frame with 120mm salsa stem and chris king head set, dura ace BB, cinelli altera bars 42cm and iagra shifters Tiagra front derailleur 105 rear derailleur Shimano R4550-s compact 34/50 crank for a double Sram PG950 12-26 9 speed cassette Shimano 9 speed chain. For my wheel set I have Alex R500 700cX18mm rims. My questions are what brakes do i need and what type should i buy? What size do I need? What kind of shift cables and do i need/where do I purchase them? How do you set up the dual brake set up (braking with both the shifters and another set of brakes top side)? How do you wrap bar tape? What kind of tires and tubes should I put on this bike? It will be a commute/dirt path bike. But most importantly am I screwed?

Take those rims and put them on ebay, craigs list or anywhere else you can find to sucker them off on someone else.
Then take the money and buy something else. I ran a set of those for ONE race this year and in the course of 2 warm up laps compleatly and utterly destroyed them. The rear we could not get out of a perfect toco shape and the frt was allmsot as bad. Those wheels are made for light road use and thats about it.
Oh for tires, once you have rims you can find speedmaxz pretty cheap.
