I am planning to get out for about 40 miles or so, probably on Saturday. Who else is riding and where?

BTW, the GPC ride for Saturday (King Ridge) looks epic: http://grizzlypeakcyclists.org/rides/current.html
Santa Rosa Cycling Club calls it (or maybe a similar route) one of the best rides in America (http://www.srcc.com/10_rides.html). Unfortunately, I'm not in good enough shape to bite off something this big!

Neither rain nor snow nor wind will keep this rider from his Saturday route.

My buddy's supposed to do the earlybird road race in Patterson but they'll call it for rain.

I'll ride in the rain to commute to work but I can't for the life of me ride in the rain for training or fun.

IF it doesn't rain I plan to ride up Skyline Blvd via Old La Honda on Saturday. Hopefully.

No riding for me - on Saturday there's a great naturalist-let hike looking for salamanders in Sunol Regional Park. My kids like this one so much that they've talked a bunch of friends into coming along! Then, indoor soccer kills Sunday...

I've been out riding the last few days - there's very little wind around, so the temperature is bearable as long as you can get a ride in between the drops!

We're overdue for a tandem ride, so if it's not actively raining on Saturday we'll go out for a spin.

Sunday we're supposed to go to the Early Bird again, but I sure don't want to do it if the weather's like last week's -- especially if it's raining but not enough for them to cancel it.

And I read today that we're only 86% of normal rain...I hope this week rectifies that. I miss the sun. :(

SF 200k brevet in Marin.... 80% chance of rain with a high of 45 F and 11-13 mph winds all day.

I am entranced in preparation at the moment...

If the chance of rain is < 50% I'll go out but I'll take the bike with fenders. If its raining when I get up I'll hit the treadmill or the trainer and hang out at home.

My first weekend to get back on the bike and it rains, argh! I may still make it out between kids' basketball, birthday parties, and stuff my wife has planned.

I'll be riding my usual Tam loop from SF on Saturday AM, with rear fender & rain coat.

The route I do from the Sunset in SF is almost exactly 100K and goes over to Mill Valley, up to Pan Toll, down to Stinson, then over the Mt. Tam Hill Climb course, back to Pan Toll and home. If the weather is nice I drop back down to Stinson and come back on Hwy 1 for a few extra miles.

Snow level is about the same as the cloud level ~1500 feet maybe?

Any recommended rain rides? I think Tam or Diablo could be dodgy in the rain because of cars and risk of sliding off the road. But maybe nobody climbs Diablo in the rain?

I have to get a road ride in this weekend, so I think Saturday I'll stay in the city and do San Bruno Mt. scenic ocean route from SF downtown. About 45 mi leaving at Approx. 9:am. If its really, really bad I'll move it to Sunday morning same time.

Planning to do a group ride on Saturday morning. If it's pouring, fine. If it's windy, fine. If it's pouring and windy, not fine. I'll just stay home, eat waffles, and put in some training time.

I bailed on the 200k brevet. I think I'll take this opportunity to do my poser ride to Los Altos or Palo Alto ... unless someone has a better poser ride to go on?

As noted above, I am thinking about Diablo for the following reasons:
1. there should be minimal traffic;
2. it will allow a solid workout in only 2-3 hours of riding; and
3. cold won't hurt you while you are busting your (self) to climb the big one.

But, there are a few cons, including:
1. no visibility at the top means that we'll miss the nice views;
2. it will be very cold coming down (I'm thinking about bringing my ski gloves);
3. it will be slippery coming down, so riders will have to take it easy.

What's the car - a project? I have a 1967 MGB that has seen ongoing restoration for the last 4 years... And we thought bikes were expensive :cry:

It's an 01 MR2 Spyder (look in NorCal's other rides for pics).

But with 245 rwhp (around 290 bhp) and weighing in at 2190lbs.... It tends get a little loose in the rain :eek:

Project... It's always a project :D

+1. Some of my co-workers were telling me how miserable my ride probably will be since it was pouring outside. But their tone changed as soon as I countered with how bad the driving will be with the inevitable traffic jams on 101, 92, 84, 237, 880, and 680.:p

Yep. I'm bike commuting to work all weekend. Rain and wind are not going to stop me unless the weather gets "biblical". Like they tell you in the military, "If it ain't rainin', it ain't trainin'."

Gonna get out, and probably ride with Western Wheelers up Hwy 9 to Skyline then down Page Mill. Hopefully that will be enough time before it starts raining.

I got out and it wasn't raining! Whee!

Got into the hills about 6 miles from home and flatted. While fixing it I heard the seasonal creek nearby rushing along, birds singing, cows lowing in the distance, a donkey braying, a flock of turkeys gobbling. Otherwise it was still and silent, really quite pleasant. This really wasn't a bad thing, this flat, since I was enjoying the bucolic beauty around me.

I put the finishing pump on my tire and pulled off the pump -- and the stupid valve came off with it! :eek::mad::mad: :cry: I was in a place with no cell reception, too, and suddenly I was bummed at how deserted the road was.

I got about 1/2 mile down the road and a kind lady offered me a ride. :) She made my day.

I made out a little better.

Met with a few riders from Western Wheelers, and rode with them up Mt. Eden, Pierce, then onto Hwy 9, with intentions of making up to Skyline. Roads were fairly dry, until getting into Stevens Canyon, where we were greated with wet roads, and some mud ... ugh. My poor bike ... dirt and mud splattered all over my Seven. The temps were actually very comfortable. Didn't even need toe warmers, and knee warmers even felt a little too warm.

By the time we started climbing Hwy 9, the temps started to drop really fast. This is where I started to suffer. I started to get an annoying headache, to the point where I couldn't take it anymore. I downed a couple of Advil's, but even after taking that, my headache was bothering me too much. I proceeded to go down Redwood Gulch, but very slowly (can't tell with the combination of steep descents and wet roads ... not a good combination).

By the time I made it down the hill, my headache was gone. I don't know if it was a matter of eating, or the advil ... all I knew was there is a Peet's Coffee around the corner. Boy, that latte felt good.

Now the annoying part ... cleaning the bike.

I went out with the Wheelmen for a 40 miler along the Sacramento River. Weather was great other than those delta in yo' face blustery winds. However, the last 6 miles back was all tailwind and we were hauling for a bit. Home cooling off with a Samuel Adams, wife's out with the kids. This is LIVIN'!!! :beer:

Wanted to beat the rains so I did a leisurely jaunt with the son up Mt. Diablo to the junction and looped back through some of the surrounding neighborhoods. Kept feeling rushed at having to get back 'cuz all of the varying weather forecasts calling for rain anywhere from 11am to this evening. Whenever I've ventured up with any chance of rain I get soaked. This time was different :). Weather was nice with moderate temps and moderately breezy winds. Kinda wish I was still out there knowing it still isn't raining...

Ron, that's a filthy bike. Good ride, eh? ;)

My day wasn't a total loss; cgallag pulled the tandem off the hooks (it hangs from the ceiling) and we took it quick spin on it. First time we've been out on it since before New Year's Day. :eek: It was warm and overcast but nice.

Today was an awesome day to ride, especially after all this rain we had :D
I rode Russian Ridge and then I figured since it still wasn't raining, I made a detour and rode Arastradero on the way back.
Bike and I were both covered in a nice thick layer of mud. :D

Haha, Ron, your bike looks like mine. Went out clean, didn't get rained on a lick, but came back looking like it went through Paris-Roubaix in a dry year.:D We must've ridden through the same runoff across the same roads, except in reverse. Oh, hey, I thought I'd try something different on today's ride; part of the return home covers Regnart Road in Cupertino, and I usually turn left to get down to Bubb or whatever that street is that eventually leads back to Rainbow, but this time I thought I'd see what was at the end (it's a dead end and is marked so). 20 some years ago when I still had some interest in not riding on asphalt, I'd ride up Regnart to the entrance that gets you into Fremont-Older, but never beyond. Well, for those of you who want a little stinger at the end of your ride (or at least towards the end of your ride, or beginning if you're going the opposite direction), I recommend that you try Regnart uphill all the way to the end. I won't ruin it for you, but there's a pretty entertaining 1/4 mile or so in there, somewhere. ;)

Most of the gunk was riding through Stevens Canyon, and since I had to cut my ride short, and came back on Stevens Canyon too. But I figured since my bike is so full of dirt and mud anyways ... might as well go full bore.

Not sure I know about Regnart ... I'll have to google that.

Solo down to Mt. San Bruno today, 48 miles, great weather, a little windy. If you look over my left shoulder you'll see Mt Diablo, look real close and maybe you'll see some East Bay'ers

I managed to pick up 35 miles today, in and around the Mt Diablo vicinity. Didn't go up, but with all the up and down around here I managed to accumulate about 1800' of climbing, anyway. Popped into a local Starbucks for a latte and scone. Nice day, and about time we got a break in the weather - I'm tired of spin class.

It's raining again..... :(
