you're new to fixed gear and you decided to trek across the country? why do you assume that you would need more than two hubs? and what is your background with bicycles?

i would like to believe two hubs wouldnt crap out on you, its not like you need to carry around hubs because you are gonna build up wheels in the middle of the road. if your wheels break, go to a LBS.

If you mean tires, carry two foldables in case you get a flat (patch kit too of course) to get you to the next LBS. If you are planning on doing some crazy, biking off the beaten path away from civilization, trying to beat a time limit, you would be better off with friends tailing you in a car loaded with supplies.

get a fixed/fixed rear hub. buy two dura ace cogs (or another quality brand)... one with the same tooth count as you rock in fl, the other with two more teeth if your dropouts can handle it.

btw, what's your route?

you'll get tired of riding after about 40 miles and just come back.

yes i am... i have rode a few century's w/ my road bike but I want to ride my fixie across country. and i was wondering if having a flip flop hub w/ 2 freewheel gears would be a good idea or should i just stick to one and one?

i think it's quite a challenge you've set for yourself, but if you know what is needed for your trip, and you know you have the willpower, then i wish you goodluck. it's about 2800 miles from jacksonville to san francisco, 28 consecutive centuries to put it in perspective. is there any specific reason you'd rather do it on a fixed gear than a road bike, which you obviously have more experience on?

pm if you want serious setup help.

I can start you in the right direction, and a lot of the stuff i read when I started long distance cycling.
but it is a lot of research on your part. considering this is 6-8 weeks on a bike you need to be familiar with every part of the process. and start spending lots of time in the saddle before you head out.
by the time i left florida I had already ridden 16 solo centuries
also start reading over in the touring forum.
