Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Expensive Straps. Daily-Street use

Personally i like My Straps Very tight, I find cages properly sized in thin shoes(ie: converse) Give the tightest hold. So i loosen/tighten my Straps Every time i put my feet in or out of the cadges. I find I wear through a set of leather straps in 6-8 weeks, nylon in less. I want to make the move to double straps. but cant see spending money to replace them every month and half. when new leather singles are 6$ any ideas. Other then eggbeaters and SIDI's

Uh, do you ride brakeless? If so, a brake helps with strap wear if you keep skipping/skidding to stop.

Otherwise, I don't know what to tell you- double straps are amazing, get those errebi sprint or soma's (despite their purported tendency to fail) if you're looking for budget doubles, if not: go for broke and get some Toshi's or Kashimax or MKS doubles, they're definitely worth a try and lots of people swear by them.

For street use I have a set of toshi single straps that are absolutely wonderful.
They're anything and everything I would want in a straps.
Nothing compared to my SIDI/Look-style clipless, but they're secure, tough and reliable.
I recommend this, especially if you're into singles already/

While I totally believe the reports of the regular (non-vegan) Soma doubles failing, they might be OK as a lower-cost experiment if you're a lighter rider. Mine look like total ****, but they keep on going despite no pampering whatever.

After single straps, home made doubles, then eggbeaters, I went back to singles. Then I thought screw it and blew a wad on a set of Toshis and I'm glad I did. I wouldn't touch the others now. I only ride clipless for 100+ rides. For everyday riding, short rides and the like, you can't beat em.

Yes i do ride brake less, I think i'm just going to Drop the $ on doubles, See how long they last, if one strap lasts 6-8 weeks will two last 12-16?, i would deal with buying doubles twice a season. I'm trying to avoid going clip less, as i can't really see lugging a pair of shoes/sandals around. i think next winter i will go clip-less and MTB shoes. Hopefully i will have 2 nice Rides by then

I had soma doubles with the quad gates for a while. I had no problem with them and they worked fine but when a set of toshi doubles came up on ebay for cheap I jumped on them. Way nicer by far and have held up to daily brakeless riding through portland winter rain

i want toshis but my new soma synthetic doubles are aces so far.

i've owned my kashimax singles for 6 months (and they were used before me), and i ride nearly 80 miles a week.

I ride minimum of 125 weekly with my toshi doubles, and don't see them lasting any less than a year or two. I tighten my straps every time too, no wear at the buckle. Get em.

Really? Well thats my Problem right a the buckle the 3 or 4cm that Gets pulled through the buckle wears and no longer Holds whilst skidding, Like they are fine to just ride with. But skidding, They slip, So i have to ride with a brake until i get this sorted.

With Toshis? That's interesting cuz my leather, once it got a little roughed up holds tighter than when they were new. How long have you been riding them? I've had mine for about 3 months now. I also don't skid too much, but I have been doing a lot of skip-stopping lately and no problems there.

I do both the errebi sprint doubles and a pair of cheap eggbeaters. I like the straps more for short rides and the clipless when I am going just to put down some miles.

the reason your straps are so short lived is cuz they are cheap. Since you've been at the bottom of the barrel try out the top dog now (which is the Toshi Doubles) they REALLY REALLY are something to experience: no slip, feel like your in slippers compared to crappy other straps, and durable. but that's up to you.

of course nothing beats clipless on the long rides but for the on/off trips, Toshi's are where its at since they are something that is truly function for your $100
