So we are almost a month into the New Year, time to take a look at those resolutions/goals we set for 2008. Are you currently on track? What do you need to do to get there? Do you need to reevaluate your goals?

My goals are big and simple. 1) Try my darnest to win a Cat 5, in the first half of the season. 2) Move up to Cat 4 by the end of the season.

I have been cross-training but the intensity needs to be raised, a lot. Weight loss is not on track. Must summon Nicole Richey for advice.

I don't remember my specific goals... one was increasing sprint speed, and the other was simply riding more mileage than last year.

I need to get to work on both :(

Well per mycycling log I'm pretty on track for my mileage goal
7500.00 mi between Tue, Jan 1, 2008 and Wed, Dec 31, 2008
[All]
Progress: 7%
534.40 mi at 12.77 mi/h
A distance of 6965.60 mi remains.
At current average speed, 545.4 hours of ride time required.
An average daily distance of 20.31 mi required.
You should have completed a distance of 491.80 mi by today.

Not so much for my speed or weight goal though. I would like to go on a group ride at least a couple times to try it out. I haven't ridden with anyone except my wife ever over tens of thousands of miles.

I think I'm on track. I could do with doing more riding outside and less on the trainer, but, according that infallible source of knowledge, that interweb thing, I am ahead of the 'miles per week' curve for the MS150.

I'm thinking about coming up with some new goals, the more time I spend on the bike, the more I think about racing. Maybe a new resolution for a crit by the end of the year, although, I'm 180, and losing any more weight is going to make me fairly useless on the rugby field...

This is a team sport ya know? That should be one of your goals: 5 group rides and 1 charity ride in 2008.

Let's see...

I'm pretty well sticking with my only resolution and that was not to freeze my arse off during my commute.:p

It has not been easy or cheap but with some determination and some X-mas giftcards, I've been able to stay the course.
$38 for wind brief undies
$12 for knee-length wool socks
$16 for neoprene toe covers
$12 for neoprene face mask
$12 for wind/waterproof over-gloves
$20 for wind/waterproof socks
$14 for wool-blend thermal underwear.

- I feel like I'm on track for my mileage goals for this month (will probably surpass with being off work next week :D ). I'd like to average out to 100 miles/week over the entire year.
- Avg speeds should come up as I ride some of the quicker (to me) group rides

Other than that, more organized rides than last year, but it's a bit early in the year for that. Oh and more centuries this year - and there's one coming up in the middle of February that we'll do (weather permitting).

As for the weight, I'm on track. Thanks to the holidays I started the year at 235. Down to 221.3 as of this morning. Leaves me 21.3 lbs minimum to drop and keep of by March 15th.

Mileage, ....ummm.... When this weather stabilizes, I have some real road miles to catch up on. Shouldn't be too much of a problem. All this trainer time is giving me cabin fever.

My last bike related goal, is on the "DL". My goal is to learn how to sew/ make some cycling caps that fit my size 8 head. Got the sewing machine, and made Version .5, and version 2. Picking up some more supplies this weekend.

Ok downloaded my polar data. I've done 110.3 miles so far this year. My goal is > 2000. I only rode 6 months last year and logged 980 miles. Weather and time has been restrictive so far, but I've logged 38 miles this month on the Elliptical machine and Neighborhood jogs combined since I can burn more calories faster with those excersises than I can cycling.

Weight wise, I dropped 55 pounds last year ending the year at 155. This year my goal is to maintain 150 - 160. I'm 5:10 so that's the "healthy" range according to the couch potato average charts. The confusing part about my weight now is I think the cycling and jogging has created some additional muscle mass, making my weight creep up. ( I wasn't measuring my quads) I'm asuming that since my other body measurements and fat percent has stayed consistant since last November.

Now hoping for weather above 50F, clear skies, and longer breaks between kid's activities. Registerd for the MS150 and HH100, got to get the training started in earnest.

The "average" healthy weight charts break down a bit when it comes to athletes. Body fat gets replaced with denser, heavier muscle mass. So physically you get smaller but weight-wise possibly not so much. I have always measured in the single digits for % body fat, and yet I'm right on the edge of being considered "overweight" according to my weight/height.

As for my resolutions this year, my only cycling related one is to track my milage, and ride at least 1000 miles. Piddly for most of you guys, I know, but my twin daughters just turned 1 this week, so getting out and riding tends to leave the wife at home with screaming babies. That said, I think I've logged right around 100 or so this year. Granted, 60 of those were yesterday at the FrostBike.

Yesterday I did my second 50 miler on a fixed. Riding fixed can be a lot of work and downright unforgiving if you are tired, but I think it will be great training for the upcomming season. I have 220 real miles in for the year so far. I need to be on a lettuce diet.
