what cliche comment should I make first? That he's a hipster with a disc wheel or that it belongs in the jackass thread for no foot retention

no but seriously that's pretty bloody amazing.

Except the pins in the chain.

But that the kid is badass, there's no arguing. And actually, I am most impressed by the chain itself!

This should be cross-posted in the mechanics forum (admins?). Then we could start a flamewar about what kind of lube would be suitable for such chain.

EDIT: and says himself that the chain was indeed the hardest part to build:

When I look back at the completed project, I realize that building the chain caused the most problems and also took the most time (nearly 40%).

I would put money on it that he used Paraffin wax or bar soap to lube up the moving joints of the bike.

Hey, here's another article about your bike!

http://lifestyle.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=11419

I got this from a Google search for "bicycle". It was the first article on the second page.

I am betting he is using the wood lignumvita its a very oil rich wood it was used for ship bearings at one time and is self lubricating.

It would have been more impressive if he made it out of one piece of wood.
