hello everyone I hope all is well.

id like to order the material for my first frame build. as mentioned I like to get some tech assistance from velonomad as he lives near me. I spoke to him last week but he was out of town and our call was dropped ill try him again this week.

ok Ill recap .

im 247 LB 5'10" short legs long torso I want to build a Rando frame for a big guy that will take up to a 700c 35 with fender I run 28 or 32 but might want bigger at some point.

fillet brazed will be the method. I'll use brass on the tubes and dropouts and silver on fittings. not sure on the fork I may buy one , id like to build a straight blade raked crown with canti posts.
the BIG question is what tubeset???

I see quite a few custom builders using Zona and waterford (when I was looking at a custom Gunnar)waterford suggested OS . then their is joe Bringheli and com 12.5 or sat 14.5 ?? How does one order from Joe?? tell him what your building and hell advise the best choice...?

I looked on Novas site and the Zona Oversized Road set looked beefy! one question is whats with the "S" bend stays (no crimping needed for tire clearance??)

your thoughts please , I ll try and talk to velonomad before I order anything.

ive been injured most of the year and wont be riding for a few more month yet , so I might as well get busy on my frame.

many thanks

"John"

Joe Bringheli is a great guy to deal with, just call him. I recommend using ZeroTre tubing for your first frame - maybe with ZeroUno (COM12.5) seat stays and top tube. Oversize of course. These tubes are fairly robust and a good choice for a first time build, particularly considering what you weigh. Joe has straight blade fork crowns which are pretty nice. Not sure you can get a 32 in there though, maybe.

Good luck.

There are some cyclo cross type wide crowns that might do. Otherwise, you could try calling Ceeway. They deal with a UK crowd. Most UK framebuilders do a lot of touring and rando bikes.

thanks for the help Both of you.

I havnt been able to get in touch with Velonomad yet.

Looks Like Ill call Joe Bringheli and see what he can come up with, I may have him build my fork as he'll get it perfect im sure. Ill paint it.

one question , I spoke to Joe back in the spring and he advised he didnt do anything but lugged.

1) would he have non lugged BBs??

2) would it be feasible to use a lugged BB and fillet braze the rest?? id be looking at tour or cross geometry for 700C (rando preferably) I like the idea as a good starting point .

3) brazeons do I want cast or cheaper stamped stuff?? dep on what joe has Im sure??

4) I noticed "S" shaped stays on NOVAs site in the Zona oversized road tubeset would these make the build easier or are they used on techie road bikes for the most part??

5) also Joe only has (as most suppliers ) crowns for 1" steer tubes, is this an issue? Im thinking no But ??

6) got an Email back from CEEWAY they seem pretty decent to deal with too. lots of stuff to choose from. and yes one of their crowns is for touring or cross bike(very wide) with a 6.5 deg rake for straight blade.
descisions descions... id rather not have to make multable purchases (if I can help it)

more insight please

many thanks
