since i'll be at NAHBS . . .
i've heard that the tin shed and the screen door are pretty awesome places for breakfast. one person i'll be with is a huge biscuits and gravy fan, and the screen door i guess has some amazing b+g action. i'm a big fan of potatoes, eggs, and a grain w/ coffee, and a pal told me that tin shed has an early AM special.
easy bike parking will be nice, as well, since we'll be riding. fixed, to keep it on topic of course.
any other suggestions, something i can't miss out on? not mr. moneybags here.
<edit> looks like screen door only has brunch at 9 on sat and sun, so that'll be a no go. any other places to recommend that are open early (7ish) and during the week?

Prepare for a long line if you plan to get breakfast at the Tin Shed on weekends-- though I'm told it's not so much of an issue during the cold, rainy months.
A few blocks east of the Tin Shed is Helser's (http://www.helsersonalberta.com/), which is quite tasty. If for some reason that place is also full-up, Cup & Saucer's NE location (http://www.portlandmercury.com/portland/FoundIt?restaurant=38616) is a perfectly suitable place to get breakfast.
If for some reason you find yourself in the Pearl District (the moneyed yuppied rennovated warehouse district on other side of the river-- NW), I can recommend Byways Cafe (http://www.bywayscafe.com/) for hott breakfast action.
as always, I'll recommend the Dirt Cheap Guide to Portland, (http://web.pdx.edu/~nac/pdxdirtcheap/) which points out some of the better parts of what our town has to offer.

It is not in Portland, but if you are heading to the cost Camp 18 is breakfast paradise the lumberjack breakfast comes with 2 eggs, 2 pancakes, peaces of meat and potatoes and if you don't eat meat you can sub grits !!!!!!! of course you will need to take a dump shortly after so be warned if you are ridding!

Cup N Saucer on Hawthorne, classic standard breakfast place. Cadillac Cafe on Broadway. I mean, you can get good breakfast anywhere as long as you go down the right streets - Hawthorne, Belmont, Burnside, NE 28th, Alberta, Downtown, etc etc etc. Screen Door is southern style food and yes there's bike racks outside as well as everywhere in Portland. Does it really even need to be asked?

Cup N Saucer on Killingsworth (near alberta) is much better than Cup N Saucer on Hawthorne

Bread and Ink on Hawthorne has the best hash browns I have EVER had. Whatever that place is next to stumptown (near Voodoo) is really good as well. If you're headed to beaverton (shudder) check out Tom's Pancake House.

actually, I didn't notice that you'll be lookin' to get fed early. I don't think there'll be much of a line at Tin Shed at that time, almost ever. probably 9-noon is the big rush of weekend slackers and hungover folk. you should be golden at 7am.

Bijou cafe I believe it is.
I'll probably be in town for NAHBS by the way. And there's a Valentine's Day Alleycat going on after that.
No way. Cup and Saucer can't hold a candle to Juniors. It's on SE 12th just south of Hawthorne. Best breakfast in town. FTW.
I think my personal fave breakfast is Genie's on Division and 11th. It is a great balance, the food is tasty though not totally dirt cheap (get what you pay for), atmosphere is good and a little funky and they serve liquor from morning to lunch (they are not open for dinner).
Though if you are completely hung over, nothing beats My Father's Place on Grand.
Fuller's is just classic. Its best to get there early, because its small and crowded.
Andre, drop the details of the alleycat on us.

Juniors has some incredibly tasty vegan options, if you are so inclined.

My Father's Place wins. Hands down.
And I wouldn't suggest the 24 Hotcake House anymore. It used to be good, when it was cheaper, the line was shorter, and there weren't guards watching you eat your eggs.

yup. +1.
and they have some kick-ass hot sauce offerings with Secret Aardvark on the tables. if you're into that sort of thing.
I'm also a fan of Utopia Cafe on Belmont. their blue corn pancakes are hard to beat.

They have this kick-ass, creamy tofu sauce. Even my mother liked it.

Not trying to hijack a great PDX thread, but if you're vegan and get a chance to go to Texas, you've got to eat at a place called Spiral Diner (http://www.spiraldiner.com/). The menu is extensive and delicious. Chicken Fried (not) Steak, Biscuits and Gravy, even vegan soft serve ice "cream."
That being said, Junior's for vegan breakfast, definitely. Chaos Cafe on SE Powell is all vegetarian and mostly vegan, with a good brunch, and great lunch options--I've never had the dinner.
Paradox on SE Belmont is always a good standby. Not GREAT, but I've never been let down.

I got to second both Genie's and Screen Door. Screen Door is NOT cheap, but it can be downright transcendental sometimes. Genie's is usually pretty solid - if you get the right person working your table. :)
Additionally - a couple lesser know but quite good options in SE are Sckavone's on Division and 41st - simple american style fare, but well executed. And the Detour Cafe, also on Division - I think near 30th or 32nd. Slightly fancier, but still inexpensive. Most amazing cardamom bread too.
Oh - almost forgot. If you truly are in SE - Bar Carlo on Foster near 64th - is excellent. Definitely more on the "fancy" side, but amazingly well done. Not expensive either.
See you at the bike show! :)
