Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - For those who wear knicker pants

Like the portland cycle wear, chrome variety or others, of course. I think I want to get a pair, just wondering if anyone has any thoughts or reviews on those they own.

I'm interested in the cycling specific features, ie articulated knees, hi/low cut waist, breathability etc which I wouldn't get in a pair of cut-off jeans.

I wear Prana Zion stretch pants (rock climbing pants)

They're vented in the crotch, gusseted at the knees, high in the back, and they have snaps for rolling up, so they make great bike-pants

I've got some army surplus wool knickers. They were cheap as hell, like under $20. The wool is a little itchy but I seem to gain a tolerance so it's only a problem at first and if I haven't worn them for awhile. They're the only thing I'll consider when doing a long ride in the cold weather (with bike shorts on underneath usually). Super nice wicking property, the cuff ends just below my knee, very warm yet I don't get sweaty and uncomfortable in them and they're rugged as hell.

Swrve knickers are the BEST. They're fitted, have bike specific seams, stretch, have pockets where you need them (which are pink btw), and are durable (I also rock climb in mine). They are worth every penny.

how are they fitted? i can wear a 36 or a 38 and i hate buying before trying. so do their sizes run big or small?

The waist runs big, the leg cut is fitted. I think the material is related to that used for old style ski stretch pants before they went skin tight--making a comeback, I guess--if you're familiar w/ that stuff. I consider myself a 36 but often fit smaller. To be safe, I ordered 36. The waist was huge but the legs were still fitted--which I think they would have been even had I ordered the 34. Mind you, I do have frog legs, but I think I'm correct: this is not a baggy cut on the leg but is generous in the waist. Very flexible fabric. Haven't tried them much cause I didn't like the color and I've been having to stick to the snow salt sludge pants but I think these will be my standard summer rain day shorts. Their folk were very cool and helpful.

I have a pair of narrow-ish fitting dickies that I cut and hemmed--that way you can have them exactly as long as you want them, they're well made, and best of all--they're *cheap*.

I have a pair of Cyclefixation knickers. I bought them because they seemed to fanciest/dressiest of the ones I was looking at. Grey wool, button closure at the cuff, etc. The weirdest feature is the elastic waistband that covers the back half. Unless you buy small and it is stretched very tight, you look like you're wearing a diaper. An added effect is when the elastic gathers, it flares the back pockets open, which are too big to begin with and don't have any way to close (button, zipper, velcro). The finish is good, but if I were redesigning I would ditch the elastic and add closure in some form to the back pockets.

the girls' section at jc penny is a particularly good place to find 'knickers' (although i think they may prefer to call them 'capris,' 'clamdiggers', 'pedalpushers,' or more likely, 'shpants'). good luck.

NAU, Portland based outdoor apparrel. It's like a softshell jacket, only for your legs. Mine are actually pants but I roll up the hem a few times. The fabric is very similar to the Rapha fixed gear knickers.

I agree those are some of my favorite biking pants too.

Rolled up Dickies "cell phone work pant" for me.

They are easily modifiable too.

I have some swrve ones that the old lady bought me for X-Mas. They are comfortable, but I feel like a goon and they are way too expensive to be buying for myself.

i have portland cyclewear messenger pants and swrve dynamic knickers.

portland cyclewear: great light stretchy material. the zippers are a bit weak but i haven't had problems. i cut out the liner with the light chamois. they're really comfy, the stretch is great.

swrve: these are cotton and thicker. more on the casual side, less on the technical side. they fit me very well, so they're comfy to ride in, but they're cotton.

both are more expensive than i'd like. got 'em both in group buys. they're worth every discounted penny.

I have a pair of the UTW pants and they're great. I wear them more in the summer than in the winter, as I prefer heavier cutoff BDUs when the temp drops, but they're definitely very nice and built to last.

Anyone want to get in on the 10pants deal from Portland? $36 for a pair of the 3/4 mess. pants. I would pick up two pairs for that price.. any one else want to get in? Other wise a few pairs will show up on ebay soon, for a low low price.

yeah but i've found that the cold will go through any one pair of pants, pretty much.

the smalls were super snug on me at first, but they loosened up under wear and washing.

Knicker are popular in Europe. I like cargo shorts. Cargo shorts on those few short rides, I do. / Guess, knicker pants, they don't interfere with the chain's functioning or get caught up in the horn of the saddle. / But, for long rides, nothing works like lycra to keep the horn from protruding up your arse. And the price, on sale , my favorite bike shorts are half the price of those knicker pants posted here.

I have a pair of Chrome knickers. The material is stretchy so it's comfortable to wear while riding. It's also somewhat windproof so I wear it during the winter to cover up the knees. Aside from those two aspects, I think it's overpriced. The fit is also a bit too baggy for me and adds to the goofy look.

Like cyclezealot, I also have two pairs of Guess knicker pants which are just normal cotton and not stretchable. However, they fit fine and are MUCH cheaper. When I need replacement knickers, I'll just get long shorts (enough to cover my knees while riding) or something cheap.

once again. swrve's are the best. they have a material for every occasion. you want winter knickers? get wool. want summer knickers? get cotton. want synthetic? get scholler. also, if you've got monster sprinter's thighs - then get THE GODDAMN SPRINTERS CUT.

also, their '110 dollar' hoodie is fantastic. fleece lined, goretex'd on the outside. two pockets in the back, extra ass coverage and longer sleeves = single best piece of winter cycling gear i have.

you can never - and i mean this - never, pay too much for good clothing. if it does exactly what you want, it's built like a tank (BY AMERICANS) and will outlast every piece of **** item of clothing you've ever bought at abercrombie.
