Safe Route out of Philly, Towards Lancaster?

Does anyone know a safe route out of Philly, that would get me on the way to Lancaster? It seems many roads heading out of the city are very busy and unsafe.

Schuylkill river trail to Valley Forge? From there you should be able to put together a backroads route that isnt too full of traffic that parallels Rt 30.

Once at Valley Forge you should be able connecto to the Perkoime Trail up to Oaks and possibly pick up Rt 23 somehow and that headfs toward the Lancaster area. If my memopry serves me 23 has some pretty wide shoulders.
