Just got back from a week trip through northern Vermont. This was a 50th birthday present from my wife. We rode from B & B to B & B. The trip was supported so that made things easier. Because she was paying the bills I made sure we did it right.
I'm from the Midwest so I'm not used to this type of riding. 40 to 50 miles per day is much tougher in Vermont than in Wisconsin but I absolutely loved the trip and the elevation changes. My commute to work was very fast this morning. A week in the mountains sure helped my conditioning.
Have any of you ever ridden Smugglers Notch at Stowe? The last quarter to half a mile is an 18 % grade after almost a 6 mile climb. I know there must be many tougher climbs in this big country but for me it was an awakening.
