Mountain Biking - BMX frame??

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Hey guys and gals. Just a quick question.
What is the main differences between a BMX frame and a freeride/dirt jump style frame?
This is probably a really dumb question, so bare with me. Im still trying to figure mountain bikes out.
thanks!
I just realized how dumb of a question this is. Bigger tires wont fit....

Yes you could.
Would it accomplish anything? cuz I happen to have a lot of BMX parts. and very little MTB parts....

bmx gets boring after awhile because of the lack of things to ride over time unless you got one major park.
atleast here, i live on a mountain and i got trails and jumps and all, and theres like 10 trails here within 25miles of my home

Guess you don't have a creative eye when it comes to riding, I've been riding this town for years now and I still spot new lines pretty much every time I go out. Plus, we only have one good park, and it's in a part of town I would rather not ride alone in.
Also, I hate it when people ***** and moan about dirtjumps, if there aren't any, BUILD THEM!

wtf, i said i have jumps, im not moaning that i dont have any. me and my other 6 buddies i know pretty much have done anything that can be done in town. my poor body cant take no suspension anymore, got bad ankles and knees and my left shoulder is lower than my right from a javelin throwing injury.
Lol yea BMX is hard on the body.
I love taking some little trail jumps on my new mtn bike and having some cushion
Bmx just got to hard to ride. a 6'0'' person doesnt fit on a BMX frame that well lol
BMXs are generally more nimble, and easy to throw around than your average DH/FR bike. But you can't really do fully hektik stuff on a BMX. Its up to you, but the TGMBG will fight you if you choose BMX over MTB.

How the hell do you injure yourself playing with oversized darts?
its the same as in baseball, or football. you can tear something throwing

Don't know where you got that, I'm 5'11 and fit just fine, and have friends up to 6'4 riding BMX and they fit fine as well.

Then there's me, I'm 5'6" and totally cramped on a BMX.
Mountian bikes are just so much more comfortable

It all depends on how you ride.

When it comes to fit, BMX bikes don't follow the same paradigm as road and mountain bikes. For one thing, the saddle isn't really intended to be sat upon, at least not while pedaling for extended periods of time. BMX racing frames (the original BMX) are basically made for short sprints out of the saddle over a smooth dirt course filled with jumps and banked corners, and there are frames that are sized for people over 6' tall. Adult sized BMX frames have wheelbases similar to adult sized road and mt bikes. Dirt jumping and freestyle bikes are based around the basic BMX racing design, but they tend to be shorter, making them more easy to manipulate for tricks.

I'm pretty sure the main diff. is the gear ratios, stem, bar height(& type), and suspension. or you could just buy a 26" bmx. like this... http://bmxmuseum.com/bikes/volume/1358

They market that bike to "old men who want to ride their bike to the packy to get a six pack". WTF, I resemble that remark!
