Here is a $7 bike I picked up and almost passed on, yeah even for $7. A '75 or '76 Sekine, which If I did my homework right was 2nd best in their lineup, the best one was essentially the same but with Dura Ace parts. I stripped the bike down and the frame kinda seemed like maybe it was actually pretty good (produces those nice high pitched pings when you flick em), it has nice lug work, and chrome.. so I figured I'd rebuild it with lighter better parts, not period correct for the most part, but I didnt want anything to look out of place. All went to plan except for the wheelset mostly which is from '88 although looks newer with that Aero front rim. I noticed tonight I didnt have enough brake reach for the 700c front rim... I didnt want to go through the trouble of finding a suitable replacement fork on ebay or spend any money.. so I looked around my room and spotted a straight blade Ventana carbon fork with a steel 1" steer tube I bought on a whim on ebay even though I never had plans for it, it was cheap and I liked it. The steer tube was just long enough to fit the frame so I figured why not. After that I just found a close enough matching brake caliper with a recessed nut put pads on it and through it on.

And Voila, as is it weighs 21lbs and 4 ounces. I still have to wrap the bars and get the rear derailleur cabled. I guess it will be 23lbs once I put pedals, a chain and a bottle cage on it, though I dont think I will bother till around march, as im using the wheels on a bike I have on my trainer anyways.. I think the original bike weighed in around 30-35lbs, should be an interesting ride to say the least!
