While at the LBS talking about Shimano 10 speed cassettes and reliability and durability, the owner also mentiond Mavic Asphalt wheels for road bikes. He said they were built for messengers and they were literally bombproof and he recommended them for clydesdales.

I looked them up on the web and they were designed to be road wheels for MTBs.

Anyone, especially clydesdales, use Asphalts on their road bikes?

Sounds like if it was built up as a MTB wheel it is to the new 29" mtb standard. I just looked at mavic web site they also state it is for used for touring. They do state narrow rim for tires down to 19mm, but with disc 32. On average Mavic wheels are pretty bombproof, quite a few clydesdales are running other mavic wheels no problems.

I just noticed one thing about them that might be a concern the spacing is 135mm vs the standard road of 130. This might not be concern for you.

Yeah, it is. Plus, the guy I talked to thought it was a problem, but thought he could get a set with 130mm. He thought the wheel was super bombproof. But, he is 230lbs and rides Ksyrium Elites on a Giant TCR Composite and said he has no problems if three years.

i believe these are the ones hybrids and cyclocross bikes use..

I can recall seeing a cyclocross bike with discs.

the 135mm rear maybe a concern but you can remove a spacer and redish the wheel. there should be no problems there.

But i think the rims are pretty solid, you can use any hub you like.:)

Wouldn't moving a spacer and redishing the wheel void the warranty? If you had to go that much trouble might as well by the Ksyrium, those would be nice on a Cyclocross I will admit though with disc brakes :)

it would(void the warranty) i guess.

But the rim line-up they have is good too. You can put chris king$$$$ there...;)
