got a bladed spoke magnet (off my claud butler levante) but the dahon's spokes are thinner than spaghetti! It goes on but not tight enough for my liking- do i have to lump it and hope the thing doesnt turn round mid cycle? i live in the uk.

I suggest that you buy a new magnet for a start. They are sold as a spare for Cateye computers and are not expensive.
The technology of permanent magnets appears to have moved on considerably in recent years. The magnet on my Dahon Curve (holding the folded bike together) is incredibly powerful.
