Hello Hawaii Ohana! Please post ride pictures and videos here. Whether you live on Oahu, Maui, Lanai, Kauai or the Big Island - whether you're a Hawaii resident or a tourist - whether you're a frequent poster or a lurker - it doesn't matter. Post your Hawaii ride pictures and videos here!
Here's a picture of BF member ahpook at the top of Tantalus. He was in town last week from Northern California - he's a former Hawaii resident. The Bianchi is his father's bike:

This is a picture of my wife from this afternoon's Tantalus ride. She was nervous about doing this ride because she hasn't ridden Tantalus in a very long time. She made it to the top without stopping!

Here she is again. It's funny how the angle of picture can make it seem so steep.

This is at the bottom of Tantalus, just at the start of the climb

This is going downhill just above the lookout. The wind was whipping and I was trying to keep it under control with only one hand.

I'm going to try to get more pictures and videos of some of my favorite rides. On deck - Manoa Valley, Kalanianaole to Makapuu, and Lagoon Drive on a Sunday morning.
Let's see what you got. . .
Eh, SM, tanks fo' posting the pics and videos, good stuff! Wow, good memories, and Ms. SM is looking very fit, indeed. Are you both doing tris this year, or planning to? I was watching your videos and noticed that there's a user named 88hawaii over on YouTube that's got Tatalus videos from a sportbike (motorcycle) pretty much covering the ride we did (and you did w/ ahpook) all the way up to the narrow bridge where the first pic above was taken. I guess for people w/ short attention spans it's a good way to see the Tantalus route since he covers it, what, 5-6 times faster than we would? :p
I'm gonna have to see if I can find my cell phone pics of my Hawaii rides. Oh, I was going to mention that you can try this videocam setup (http://www.goprocamera.com/index4.htm) that I saw at the Interbike show that was pretty well done. Or make a DIY mount.

Hey t4,
I'm still undecided if I want to do any triathlons this year but I think my wife wants to do a sprint tri. Maybe this year I'll just be a spectator and cheer her on like she did for me last year.
Thanks for the link to the helmetcam. My birthday is coming up so I may be sending this link to someone in my family as a gift idea:).

Hi Catherine,
Traffic on Tantalus is very light, especially in the morning. And because there are a lot of switchbacks on the way up, the cars tend to drive pretty slowly. If you like hills, you'll love this ride. If you are there on a weekend morning, you may see Pobble and his wife.

Pobble he is an animal. I keep seeing this older guy climbing Hawaii Loa ridge, even at night, with his little lights. He looks like he 19 from the neck down. It must be 20% grade the security told me. What do you think the grade is on Tantalus? Jb did 30 mile at lunch yesterday, he says the headwinds were kick butt.

Okay, back to the visuals... Here's Madame P taking a break on the Ewa side of Tantalus... Proof positive, if any is needed, that not everybody in Hawaii nei is into working on their tan...
By the way, my back-of-the envelope calculation is that it's a 6% climb on average (about 1500' over ~5 mi?). Could be way off, though.
Also BTW this is my first time posting a photo -- hope it works!:o

One hill the locals called 'The Wall' had me standing on my pedals half the way up -

It was kind of nice back then because the rains had washed out the road and it was just you and a fairly deserted road for most of the ride.
Aloha all! Thanks for posting that pic Sprocket Man! I'm back on the mainland now but this picture from above makapu`u is keeping me warm

Great pictures, everyone! Keep 'em coming!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed too. However, chances are quite high that it will rain through Saturday, at least. It seems as though the Punahou Carnival always brings out the rain.
Have a nice weekend!:)

Funny, was doing some research for Maui riding (going in March) and came across another 88hawaii vid for 340 around the north side: http://ca.video.yahoo.com/video/play?vid=1439483&fr=
Great video!
I'll be looking to ride on the island, not sure if going this road.
