Hi everybody,

Yes, you heard me right. At 38 years old, I am learning to ride a bike. Insane, I know. I am participating in Team in Training to help raise money for Leukemia and Lymphoma research. I have decided to compete in the Capital of Texas Triathlon on May 25, 2008. I could have chosen the 1/2 or full marathon, neither of which contains a cycling component, but it seemed appropriate that I fight to overcome my fear of the bike while raising money for people who are fighting for their lives. It sort of puts my fear in perspective. This is an olympic length event. Doing the sprint seemed like taking the easy way out.

I have purchased a road bike. I have received my first war wounds. I am committed to doing this, even though I start to hyperventilate whenever I take the bike out of the garage. I hope that you guys will help me to reach my goal of $4,300. It is for such a good cause.

What road bike do you have?

Hi! It is a Fuji Newest. I got the cheapest road bike I could find. I figured I can always upgrade later, and it seemed silly to spend a fortune on a bike that is going to be spending some quality time with the pavement, at least in the beginning. I have no problem spending more money on a bike, but I want to improve first.

Nice looking bike. Save some $$$ for a large First Aid Kit.
I am training myself. I have been riding 55 years.
Some say you need 500 to 1000 miles before your are ready for speed.
So take it real slow untill then.
Keep it touch.
