Tandem Cycling - Rally Updates: It's that time of year

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Just thought I'd send out a more global reminder that many of the 2008 Tandem Rallies have already launched their Websites and opened registration.

As in years past, I try to do my best to keep rally info up to date at the www.thetandemlink.com based on what's sent to me and/or what I come across by checking last year's event sites for forwarding links and such, and will post other notices on events at the Bulletin Board on my home page. It's not quite a blog, but I do try to keep timely and useful or interesting information on the page and, well, the archives that go back to 2001 are filled with all kinds of trivia.

At present, I do know that:

- The folks down in Sebring Florida have sent out the flyers for their annual weekend event at the Kenilworth Lodge which last year was moved from January to April for better odds of great weather.

- The Alabama Tandem Weekend organizers have come up with a great ride for tandem teams who prefer or enjoy the Rails-to-trails cycling facilities with an out-and-back event on the Chief Ladiga / Silver Comet trail that links Anniston, Alabama to Smyrna, Georgia in mid-April.

- The Southwest Tandem Rally in Oklahoma has it's Website up and running for their late April event.

- The Georgia Tandem Rally in May began to make applications available yesterday and will update it's "who's registered page" tomorrow after the postman brings the first batch of registration forms submitted over the weekend.

- The Tennessee Tandem Rally in June is filling up fast and may, in fact, already be putting names on the waiting list. Note, for those who want a Spring-time treat, there is an event called the Dancing Bear Bicycle Bash in early April that has rides along some of the same routes used for the Tennessee Tandem Rally. It's not a tandem-specific event, but the TTR organizers are part of the planning committee.

- The Southern Tandem Rally up in Bowling Green, Kentucky has a number of folks listed as registered already. We'd be on that list too, except that I've recently been told we have another grandchild due around the same time and a nieces' wedding to attend on the 20th... cest la vie.

Anyway, you get the idea. Lots going on. If you are hosting an event of some size that pulls in participants from a wide area, please let me know so that I can add it to our events page: http://www.thetandemlink.com/RallyInfo.html

I've reposted my article from last year entitled, "Ya Snooze, ya loose - Tandem Rallies Can Fill Up Quickly" which outlines a strategy for making sure you have your best chance at successfully securing a spot at these great events. Again, available on the Bulletin Board under the new items for January 27th.
