Oscar Freire won the World Championship road race for Spain today in Lisbon. Bettini was second, and a Slovene third (sorry, I don't have his name). This is his second win, the first being 1999.

After 20 laps of 12.1 Km, the last one was the fastest at over 45 Kph. And after 254 Km, the last 100 meters was decisive, as almost always.

Cheers...Gary

he's becoming a bit of a world champs wonder. he won it a couple of years back, then did nothing much the following year, or this year due to a back problem. and now he's won it again!? the jammy little spaniard! i'm sure i met him once, about 3 years ago at the tour of mallorca when he was riding for the vitalicio seguros team, he was a right mardarse!

slovenian rider is called andrej hauptman.

Gotta hand it to those Italians though -- now THAT'S teamwork! Freire owes Lanfranchi a case of champagne, I should think.
