What do you guys add to your water? I'm looking for a good powder mix, why it's good etc. I was looking at the gatorade mix packets, but am not sure if there's a better one for cycling or not. I've used hammer's heed mix, but I don't know if I should be focusing on getting energy or electrolytes or both.

Also should I take whey protein after a long workout? I usually eat some meat/peanut butter/milk, but I know all protein is not equal. Should I be getting a higher quality protein?

After my ride I take Muscle Milk Lite and a bowl of cheerios or pasta.

Carbs are generally more important than protein, for recovery purposes after a hard ride. It's important to eat both though. Try to eat something with a 4:1 ratio of carbs to protein.

I usually just drink water on rides, and get my calories from food. I prefer it that way, both for taste and i feel my body works better like that. I have used accelerade though, that stuff is good.

Whey protein from a mix is probabley just as good as any, it might get absorbed even faster, i like eating whole foods better though.

I’ve been happy with Acellerade.

The answer is is "whichever drink mix sits well with you" - people are very different. I like Accelerade, but it doesn't work well for others. I will say that it's more likely that you'll find a drink that works for you at a bike shop than some other place. Carbs and electrolytes are most important, though there is some research that suggests that protein can also be good.

For post ride, chocolate milk is good if you tolerate the lactose, but I prefer endurox.
