Introductions - Hello from Niagara, Canada

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I want to get back into road biking/touring. The Niagara area has some great rides, trails, and clubs. Just recently took an early retirement, so I guess I qualify for the 50+ forum! I also qualify for the Clydesdales section (6'4", 210 lbs). Looking forward to picking the brains of all the well informed people I've seen so far. Look for my first post in the Road Cycling section where I'll be looking for opinions on choosing my new bike!
Nice to be here.

Hi JakesPix, the Clydesdales/Athenas forum is a great, friendly place, and highly motivational to boot! Do you ever cross the border for rides?
Welcome to BF!

Hi, East Hill: I've haven't biked in the states yet, but I hope to. Friends of mine have rode around Lake Ontario and I hope to join them when I get in shape. Check out Road Cycling thread and help me out with choosing my new bike!

That's just a nasty rumour,(like everything's bigger in Texas), but if you want to send me $64,000 I'll gladly send you the deed to the Skylon Tower!

Welcome.
We have some good friends who live in St. Catharines. Usually try to bring the bike whenever we visit. It is great area to ride in. My friends are great wine snobs. They drove to the wineries, I rode the bike. Great day.
I have a Specialized Allez Elite. I am very happy with it. Being a 50+, I have a triple. You'll appreciate the triple when you start riding the Escarpment.

Welcome JakesPix from a fellow Canadian,
I have to agree with you that you do live in a great area for different types of cycling. I have crossed through Niagara Falls many times while on tour. It is a mecca for touring cyclists passing through the area and I have met many cyclist loaded touring at the falls. If you notice my Avatar is a picture of me at the falls during a tour along north shore of Lake Erie. If you get a chance to tour around Lake Ontario do it, it is a great trip except for Toronto. I don't know if you are talking about loaded touring but last year I bought a new Cannondale T2000. It is the best touring bike right out of the box that I have ever owned. I am also a clyde 6'1" 230lb but even with 50lb of stuff loaded on the bike it is rock solid. It rides better loaded than unloaded.
There is great info in the touring thread and everyone has a opition on what is the perfect bike, that's why they make so many different kinds. Enjoy your retirement and maybe I'll see you on tour, I am planning on going through Niagara Falls this summer on a tour around Lake Erie.
