I've been using the Gommitalia Targa tires for about 1,000 miles now , and they simply ride awesome. Roll nice, corner well, comfortable...just feel great, but...yes a but:

I've already had 3 flats, and they seem to cut very easily. I had 3,000 miles on my previous tires, Michelin Axial Carbons, without a single flat.

Now the Targas ride so much better, but the flats are a big pain. Gommitalia makes a tire called the Calypso that are a little heavier but are supposed to be more resiliant to flats so I ordered a pair...I hope the ride is at least close to the Targas.

Anyone else ride the Targas or Calypsos? If yes, your experiences would be most welcome.

By the way, the Targas are $100/pr and the Calypsos are $55/pr.

Higher priced tires tend to be relaly light weight and thus have less 'rubber' and will last much less than the cheaper more heavier versions.

Too many people are buying the 200gms tires for training and complaining on durability. They are not made to last as they are less material.

Best to buy the heavier tires as they will alst longer.

No matter what brand.

Thanks fore the response Xavier.
What I'm really looking for is some feedback on the Calypsos in relation to the Targas. The durability of the Targas is an issue with me, but not the longevity. I'm OK with the Targas lasting only 1,500 - 2,000 miles, but I'm not OK with flatting every 300 - 500 miles. If the Calypsos are even close, and the flats are greatly reduced, that will be my new tire, even if the Caypsos only last 2,000 miles or so.

I have around 1000 miles on the gommitalia logo tires. They are a chaeper version of their tires but I like the very smooth feel and they roll fast. So far I have had no flats as I have a bike that I have rode for around 6000 miles without ever getting a flat with 700x23c tires. If you run 110-120psi and pay attention to what is upcoming on the road you will not have to worry about flats
