Classic & Vintage - vintage freewheels

Ive been shopping around a while for a freewheel, and I keep hitting the same wall. I dont really know what brands were better then others. Or what the differences were between different models. I am sure there must be differences the same way there is now days.

Part of the problem is it must be french threaded 6-speed.

I see regina oro's come up on ebay now and then, and they really do look nice... but are they that much better then say a "cyclo course"

I am willing to spend the extra couple bucks for a nicer freewheel (upto a point), I would like it to match my maxi-car wheels for example.

For French threads, Atom is probably most common but Moyne and Cyclo come up on ebay all the time. You will also get the occasional Regina. I don't see or feel a great deal of difference between them (I have used all of them in either French or Italian threads). Also, search French ebay, roue libre is freewheel and you will get more choices.

BTW, I finally got my French threaded track cog. It took a looooonnnnngggg time but a French seller put 5 of them up on ebay and I got one of them. I still need a lock ring though.

I concur with iab, although for durability I prefer Regina over Atom or Cyclo. French-thread freewheels can be pretty tough to find in the U.S. MaxiCar hubs are tres cool -- fortunately, mine were English-threaded.
