Thoughts on this? Saw the 2004 model at a FBS today and the price (RRP) is AWESOME! $2,999NZD

I am thinking about new pedals and shoes, as well as helmet. If i get the accessories i get 20% off the bike, meaning I have $600 to spend on solid ultegra/105 hubs in 32 rims for training wheels.
comments?

The one in the picture is the 2003 model. I have seen it before and test rode it. It was not bad, would you be looking for the 2004 model? I have seen the colour design, doesn't seem very nice for the titante black, whereas this is rather okay.

The 1500 is a nice bike. They retail for $1095.00 here in the states. You just cant beat that.

It's not a bad value, 105 Shifters, Ultegra R deraileur, Tiagra front, Bontrager Select wheels, B crankset.
But why-oh-why do they only offer it in a triple?

It appears, that overseas, you can get a double or a triple. :(

Where's the double? Is the triple the only set up offered? My friend is thinking about getting this, but I don't think he'll like that. I'll try to steer him towards the 2300!

the one i saw in the shop was a double and you can get a choice over here apparently

You can get both in any Trek model at least up through the 5200...In the US included.

Got a 2004 Trek 1500. Only managed about 250 miles so far but I really like it. Of course, I'm about as far from an "expert" as you can get so I don't know what my opinion is worth. I did upgrade the front derailleur to Ultegra. It does what I want it to do, it seems to be fairly durable.
I did scratch the crap out of it the first week I owned it but that was my own fault.
Hoping to get a computer with cadence soon (flight deck maybe).
Did find that the stock OEM tires are slight thicker than kleenex (sliced the rear to unusability already) but the grey stripe on the bontrager race lites compliments the color scheme nicely.
I'm actually digging the stock saddle although the most I have done at one sitting is 50 miles. I may get them to swap it when I take it in for its first tuneup.

I bought the 1500 in Australia a month ago (this is a different model from the US 1500, and does have full ultegra). The price you're getting is excellent, since I paid A$3000 and that was with a $200 discount. I've made a couple of minor changes: Selle Italia Prolink saddle, Deda CF seatpost, 44cm ITM Mantjs bars, but the stock bike is excellent. At that price, provided you get a good fit, I don't think you can go wrong.
