Texas - North Texas - 25mph sustained, 50mph gusts

Someone motivate me to go pretend I'm a sailboat on wheels today.

Well I drove today instead of riding 20 miles each way into a solid head wind but first thing I am doing when I get home is getting on the bike and heading out. Since I'll be able to turn around at anytime if needed it'll be a good old time.
I think I'll take the road bike though. The xtracycle with the built in 2'x3' sail around the back wheel would be more fun then I could handle.:rolleyes:

1. After riding on a day like today, a 15mph wind will feel like nothing more than a nice breeze.

2. Big wind means easy climbing repeats.

3. I saw plenty of 10 year-olds riding to school this morning.

Riding home late last night was a bit slow and challenging.

I kept repeating my old sig-line to myself:
"Wind is like traffic to a cycling commuter. Don't get frustrated. You can't fight it. Just down-shift and relax."

It seemed a long ride home last night....I drove today, but will be riding dirt tonight....tomorrow I'll be back on the commute.

Feels like a windy one again today

Going home last night was ok. I think the tailwind did more harm then good since I didn't have any kind of breeze when riding plus it was pretty hot.
Be careful out there though. I have heard from a couple folks that in flower mound and lewisville the wind has knocked down fences, light poles and trees causing lots of traffic problems mid day. I think it is only supposed to get even windier tonight? Power at my building has shut down at least twice today.

Well, despite my whining I got out and rode at lunch through the backroads of Lucas (Winningkoff, orr, etc, towards Mckinney). Outgoing north I was hitting 30 - 35 mph vibrating along the chipseal. Coming back i was averaging 8 - 10. Intentionally cut it 10 miles shorter than normal since I needed to get back to work and knew the return leg would take longer.

My legs are beat. On the leg home against the wind even down hill it seemed I needed to stand to keep the bike moving forward.

But I rode, next windiy day will be easier.

You guys are braver than me. Last time I rode in winds like this it was all I could do to not be blown over.

Power was out at my apartment when my wife got home this afternoon. Seems to be back up now. (N.Dallas/Richardson area)

Might head out briefly just to say I did it tonight, depending on how cool it is when I get home. Right now it's 50 and falling.

We lost power over here in Coppell earlier too. Not sure if it was the construction or wind.

You guys are braver than me. Last time I rode in winds like this it was all I could do to not be blown over.


Felt like I was leaning into a curve all day even on the straights.

I'll be commuting again tonight. Looks like it might be calmer by then, good thing. Last night was kind of a beating.

Didn't even attempt riding. The fires south/southeast of Benbrook turned my normal 40 minute drive into 2 hours getting home. Winds won't be dying off by much over the next couple days.
