Ug. I LOVE OLN coverage, but sometimes I just don't have enough hours in a day for all the cycling :)

Here's my schedule today:
Ride home and get in about 4:30.
Rewind the tape and watch the Vuelta (Go Nozal or Heras!)
Make dinner, talk to the wife
Watch the T-Mobile Int'l
Watch CSI
Grade a few papers
Bed.

:p ;)

Maybe the worst coverage of a race I've ever seen. Who were the yahoos calling the thing? Aldag's 10 feet of the group and he's being dropped?

I won't go into the dangerous layout of the actual race. Saw a couple riders dodging traffic cones.

It was more like... they were cutting across the track, through the traffic cones, rather than traffic cones being placed in the middle of the track. It reminds me of a formula 1 car over-shooting a chicane, and short-cutting across :D

Deintely been spoiled by the commentary of phil and paul, hell, even good ol' bob. I could have commented that race better. That women was stuttering/pausing every time she was trying to saw something intelligent sounding about the race. I noticed they were all big USPS fans, 'wheres postal?' 'we're all waiting for postal's move'. Oh well, the actual video coverage was decent. Didnt see too much of the peloton after the break went though. Maybe they needed more motorbikes.

The day of show that aired really left something to be desired. They focused too much on the break away that was boring. Not enough on the peleton. I got the feeling they were trying to make it a general population sport trying to spruce it up a bit. But it left something to be desired for sure. I miss not having the OLN crew.

The commentators were a little annoying, but compared to the stage races, I thought it was awesome.

Horner's final break was carried off like clock-work... McCormick jumps and burns up the rest of the breakaway group chasing. When they catch he drags them over to the edge of the road as if he's trying to shake them off the draft, then Horner shoots up the opposite side of the road and is gone before anyone can get on his wheel. This after recovering a ~20 second deficit. He wasn't even going all out, thought he had to complete another lap!!

On the long straight-away to the finish, did anyone else notice how he was riding... forearms resting on the h-bars?

That coverage led to me changing the channel about 10 minutes after Lance's interview. Just terrible :P On top of that, my VCR screwed and I didn't get the Vuelta! :( Looks like I didn't miss much, though, since the standings don't appear to have changed at all (MAN I hope Heras gets 2nd!)

I see that a lot but never felt comfortable doing it myself.

Yes, that move by Saturn, and Horner, was awesome. What a powerful rider. I was thinking, when he had that flat, that the peleton would be right there to swoop him up!

Every once in a while I find myself doing that. I end up thing "I would feel so comfy with aero bars"

While watching Horner blasting off the front I started to wonder what the difference is between him and a european pro. If there is much of a difference that is. I wonder how he'd do if he was tossed into the mix at Fleche Walone or the Tour of Flanders.

When I saw that move I figured they must've talked that over and decided to set it up in advance. Great teamwork!

The commentators were terrible! My teenage daughter was bemoaning the fact that the guys with "the English accents" weren't doing the race. We also said that next year if we watch the race from the left side of Fillmore St. they'll be sure to show photos of the crowds in the right!

It was also too bad that they didn't capture the noise of the crowds at the Fillmore St. hill. You couldn't tell from the video but the crowd there was cheering on the riders at the top of their lungs, ringing their cow bells, and banging their thundersticks! It was sooooo cool!

My wife was getting annoyed with the commentators and she was in the other room. That's bad.

There can only be one Bob Roll. I wish he could have been the commentator. How old is Horner? Does he still have time to try his legs in the Euro Peleton?

Cheers

Ohh that would have been awesome to experience. I cant stand it when they cut the sound low on TV coverage. I think some stages of the Giro had the sound completely cut out. Its awesome to hear the crowds roar while watching the race.

There was a race earlier this year that pitted several European teams against Saturn... might have been the Wachovia series in Pa. (formerly the CoreStates). The short story is Saturn, Americas best, is still only at the level of a minor European team. Hard to say about individual riders, like Horner. I'll definitely be watching for Tom Danielson next year.
