Introductions - hi to all

Hiya. I came to the Bike Forums by way of bicycling.com. I was looking for info on a new bike. I discovered I really like it here. I drop in a lot even though I don't comment all that much.

I'm 42. I live in Northern California, near Lake Tahoe. (where you're either going UP or DOWN, but never flat) I started out riding MTB. I bought my first road bike to get into better shape for offroad and just fell in love with it. For the last 2 years the road has been my passion. I don't race but I do like long rides. This year I managed to survive the entire Markleevill Deathride. ... And thank God I never have to do that again.

I work the graveyard shift in the ER of the small local hospital. Most of my training/ riding is done alone because of my unusual schedule. It's a good thing the scenery is pretty around here!

That about covers it... Oh yeah, 2 cats, no kids.

And btw, I did get the bike: Sampson Silverton, carbon forks, Kestrel Pro handlebars, Campy Chorus 10. LOVE it!

A belated WELCOME RoadieGal! A great area you live and ride in. When I lived in California, I used to drive up that way to the casinos and sometimes to Reno. Always thought there would be some really good riding in that area.

Hi roadie gal -

What have you learned from your long rides? I will be doing some centuries this coming spring and summer, as well as a 500 mile ride for charity.

Do you use an electrolyte replacement drink? What is the most difficult thing about long distance riding for you?

My road bike is a Trek WSD (I'm a shrimp, standing just over 5' ) and I needed the smallest frame they had.

Hi roadie. Welcome to the forum. I think you will like it here.
I too am a solitary rider and tend to like it like that most of the time. It is nice to be able to get away from the hustle and bustle of the work day and just head out on the bike and collect my thoughts. I live in Northern Ontario and there are very few riders around here other than my wife and a few others that we mountain bike with once and awhile. My wife is a vet and I manage the lab at the local hospital. We too are on very strange schedules so very seldom get a chance to ride together especially since our new son was born in May. We have to split the rides up so someone is home with him. Occasionally we get a sitter and go for a good ride together.

Hi, i did the Death ride in 94'. I only did 3 passes. At the time i was living in south florida; mostly all flats. I'm in Silex, MO now and just getting back to riding again.
