Charlotte Observer: January 28 - A bicyclist was killed Sunday afternoon in Wesley Chapel, in western Union County, after being struck by an oncoming driver, according to the N.C. Highway Patrol. Brian Charles Rau, 46, of Waxhaw, was biking north on Cuthbertson Road about 3:30 p.m. Sunday, according to the accident report. A 2001 Mazda van driven by Lisa Ann Ray, 46, of Waxhaw was traveling south. Her vehicle crossed the center line and struck Rau, the report said. Ray, 46, was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.
(Editors note: As learned from the Todd Weaver fatality of October 2005, state law consigns death by motor vehicle to the minor charge of misdemeanor, i.e. as a merely an accident.) . . .'

Where have you been the past two days. This news is already being discussed on this board in these two threads.

It's good to know that charlottebikes.org reads the paper too, although a day or two after everyone else does.

It was a tragic accident, but lets not make it more than it is. It was simply an accident, not road rage against a cyclist, not indignation by a driver held up for several seconds of her journey, simply an accident.
Two different accounts have the driver inattentive either because she fell asleep or was on a cell phone. In any case she crossed the center line and entered the wrong lane where she hit the victim, Mr Rau.

I guess I should have been reading all the new threads in this forum before I pushed the submit button.
Usually a new thread title alerts the casual reader to something germane as to the thread content.
The main reason that I did my thread was to call attention to this edit note:

Ok, so you wanted to bring attention to the fact that it was an accident or the fact that killing someone with a vehicle as a result of an accident was charged as a misdemeanor, neither of which was evident from your thread title.

Do ether of these thread titles mention the fact that a bicyclist has lost his life?
