Just combo of a lot of things... all the rain last week, then tweaked my knee mtb'ing (scootcore's fault, I'm pretty sure)... so have had a very down 2 weeks. On top of that, can't swing the time/resources right now. Kinda bummed, as it is one of the few courses I might have been able to hang with the pack.

Eh, take the time to get yourself in shape and maybe think about entering in Pine Flats RR where a mountain goat like you could thrive.
Thinking of doing Roger Millikan the following weekend?

Doing boulevard and Red trolley. Has anyone here accidentally registered for the wrong category? If so what happened when you showed up on race day? I signed up for the 4's for red trolley, and it let me, but i dont know if they'll say i cant race that day.

I haven't done that (*knock on wood) but I know someone who did, and they just changed when he got there. I'm not sure if they still accommodate that with a full field, but otherwise it wasn't a problem.

Will they let me race in the 4's if i dont say anything? I really dont mind, and i dont think i would have a problem keeping up, I mean the paces are going to be very similar anyway.

I don't know really, but it could be a liability issue.

They usually check your license, so probably not.
I'll be on black and silver CAAD8 with a bling bling crank and yellow sticker on the downtube. Maybe I'll run in to some of you there. :)

Try e-mailing them now and asking them to change your registration. I did the same thing for this past weekend's RILYSI crit (CBR). The lady said it happens all the time, and to just e-mail her in the future if it happens again. Of course, I had the proper license for the category I mistakenly registered for.

+1. If you can stay with the group in the harder road races, you can definitely hang on in the criteriums. You might not win, but you will be able to hang.

I'll be at Blvd in the 4's. A recent nasty flu has me in serious self doubt about this one.

Yeah, thats not me... I think I'll just treat it as a training race.
Hi,
I'm pretty sure that I'm going to do the Masters 45+ race (as long as it doesn't rain). I was keying on Pine Flat as my first road race of the season but something cam up and I can't go. I was hoping to lose some of my "winter weight" (old guys who get fat in the winter) before my first road race but that isn't going to happen before Saturday.

Hi Cleave,
Do you know how far the drive is for Pine Flats? I'd like to do that one, but it's probably a long shot.
So far, the forecast for Blvd looks dry, but really cold, and I'm sure the usual winds will be around. The last couple of years we've lucked out and it's been sunny and warm (and of course windy).

I've stayed in Fresno when I've done Pine Flat. About a 3.5-4 hour drive. From Fresno to the race was about 30-45 minutes. That is a really fun course. The races are early and you are farther north so it is usually cold.

Hi OC,
I've never done Pine Flat before (and still won't have) so I would go with what redal wrote. Several of my teammates have done it and they stay in Fresno. They will be driving up to Fresno on Saturday, race on Sunday, and drive home on Sunday.
Regarding Boulevard, if it's cold I won't have to worry as much about a feed. Two large bottles and reasonable hydration before the start should hold me.

Dunno if I'm doing Blvd or not.
Was planning to do it but circumstances have been conspiring against me as of late.
I've been off the bike for over two weeks. First there was the unexpected trip to Idaho (Grandfather's funeral.), followed by being bedridden for 3-days upon returning, due to having picked up the flu.
That caused me to miss the southern nevada stage race, which was to get me my last two required Cat V starts.
So I'm already registered for boulevard as a IV. The Vs are full and I haven't received a response from the organizers, as to whether or not I can race.
If I can't get an answer from *somebody* before Saturday, I'm not going to be very motivated to get up at 0-dark-thirty and drive for 2 1/2 hours on the off chance that I *may* be able to race.
Man, this is *not* the start to my season that I had in mind...

I feel for you. I was registered for Nevada, but came down with the flu two weeks before the race, and skipped it. I was floored for about 10 days straight. I'll be heading out to Blvd, but I'm not feeling too confident about my riding. I'm still recovering from being sick, and feel like I'm at about 85% of where I was 3 weeks ago.
Hi All,
Well, I'm in a similar situation in terms of the chaotic start to my season. However, the reasons for my chaos are very different.
My wife has two aunts, one on her mother's side and one on her father's side. Maternal aunt just died today after a long battle with Alzheimer's. So my wife is on an airplane Saturday morning to go to Florida for the services. :( So Boulevard is now out for me.
Her paternal aunt has cancer and it's not looking great so my wife is going to Portland to visit her on the Pine Flat weekend. :(
I may be missing races but I'm healthy and alive. I will be at the Roger Millikan Crit.
