Recumbent - home built question

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

ok, we have some rectangle aluminum(sp?) tubing at work ( we build aluminum stock and horse trailers) ive been eyeballing for a frame for a bent but we dont have any round tubing that would be the right size for a BB any idea where i could get the proper size so i could just use a crank off a junk bike. ive started to play with the wielders at work as soon as i get where i feel im wielding good enough i want to start a long wheel base bent first for the wife then maybe one for me depending on how long my short wheel base lasts
try contacting poweron cycling on line. They may have what you are looking for. The chances are though that they only stock Cromoly BBs, and not Aluminum.;)
P.S. I just checked Power on cycling. If you click on homebuilder's corner, you should be able to find an aluminum bottom bracket that is threaded and faced. They have lots of other goodies for the homebuilder.

thanks, lots of neat stuff there....
For aluminumn tubing: www.aircraftspruce.com
If your' building a SWB, Hellbentcycles.com sells an aluminum trike boom with bottom bracket mount.
You could just get an aluminum donor bike, cut part of the down tube and seat tube as appropriate, and use the BB mount and BB/crankset.

lol the wife tried my swb and put it on its side she never even got her feet off the pedals.she was laying on her side with her one foot onder the bike still on the pedal she wasnt hurt but says she will never try mine agian.... she test rode a EZ1 at the LBS and really liked it, but we cant afford one so im looking at making her a lwb so we both can ride. ive lost 35 lb since i started riding and i want her to start loosing some weight as well. need to come up with a better trailer so we can haul kids as well. so many plans and so little time and money to spend on it :>)
and i didnt even think about aircraftspruce i have a catalog from them some one on my binder forums suggested them for fiberglass supplys for making a fuel tank for my travelall. then have a resion(sp?) for the fiberglass that is not effected by fuel.
