Pacific Northwest - Could they get it right, already?

The past two days I've been hearing the standard doom-and-gloom predictions for more snow overnight. Monday I was warned by the weathermen about 3 more inches that were going to hit the east side. Last night the calls for high winds and freezing temperatures gave way to a forecast of black ice all over the Seattle metro area.

Both were wrong. OK, on Tuesday I was glad to still have the studs on my bike because not all of the packed tire tracks had melted down. This morning, I was glad that I aired up the tires to full pressure, because the roads were fine.
Ugh, after only 3 days I'm wishing that the foreboding would either come true and make the effort of the studded tires worthwhile, or just quit so I can put my Conti's back on and roll easier.

Well, when the overnight temperature is hovering around 32 degrees like it has been, tiny changes in temperature or humidity can make significant changes in what actually happens.

Still bummed about the meeting Huh? I did the same thing, got cool new studed tires, put them on last week and last night took them off and never got to use them, Darn.
I plan to wake up an hour early to check for snow so I can change them before my ride if I got a chance. Good luck, mabey next week.

I'm just leaving the Innova's on for now. The sound of 212 carbide-steel studs singing down the road at 20mph seems to keep people from stepping in front of me.

It was pretty dang windy heading south to West Seattle last night. Headwind the entire way. And my feet were very, very cold by the time I arrived home. And I'll do it again tonight...(image of husband shaking his head in amazement...)!

Second that for the wind last night. I was fighting it pretty much all the way home. Today doesn't look much better.

Woohoo, I head north at night! Tailwind!

(but the winds, they turn on me in the summer, arrrrgh!)

Its so hard to forcast the weather around here with mountains and all that water its a nightmare. What gets me is when it snows in the Cascades and the new channels send a reporter up there to let us see it and make a big deal out of it. DUH its the mountains its supposed to snow and another thing I don't get is why does the DOT close Snoqualmie all the time and not Stevens and White pass when they are narrower highways. Is it the approaches that are so dangerous or what. Anyway come summer we will forget all about this crap I know I will. Next year I'm heading to Arizona for the last two weeks of Jan and the first week of Feb. Oh now thats gonna be nice.

I'm just glad I didn't have to mess with weather last night or tonight :) . Hurrah sometimes for weird days off! I went to a doctor's appointment yesterday, confident that all the ice patches had melted.

AAAAIIIIEEEE! I hit two nice icy spots about 20 feet across, going downhill, and didn't realise they were there until I was on them. Fortunately I just rode through them...:) .

Remember Jim Foreman? I think he worked for KING-5 television. Every time there was some kind of really bad storm or something coming through they'd send him out to the worst place you could think of. We'd tune in just to see where they sent him this time.

January is always iffy around here. Better days are coming.

Tomorrow is the first of Feb. Thank God we got through January or as I called rainuary part 2. Its always nice to see the first day of Feb at least for me its kind of a milestone not for any particular reason it just seems like I'm always a bit more optimistic about the chance of a nice day or two and it also means I gotta get out and do some major pruning to the bushes outside and the roses will get a good pruning too so yeah its a good thing

I live on Northwest Blvd. This picture was taken on High Drive on the south hill. I don't get over to the Pines Road area too much, but we do occasionally ride on route 27 down south.

That looks like a challenge! I'd rather ride in that than the icky, icy, slushy stuff I had here the past week!

Yeah wet slushy rain is the worst. At least we stayed dry :)

Jim Forman, or Parka Boy, as I like to call him, still works for KING5. You will still see him out in the bad weather, in his bright yellow Columbia KING5 parka, reporting from the midst of a blizzard, typhoon, etc.
