Okay, well carnival is coming to a close next week and though I am not overly religious, I plan on spending lent with a traditional Orthodox fasting. So basically I am using this as an excuse to go vegan for 46 days or well… just 40 as I think I would like an omelet on Sundays…

I have never done the vegetarian thing only and am wondering if there are major cravings associated with it if you just switch cold turkey (tofu?) I am also surprised to see that olive oil is not allowed. And I can’t figure out why that is. Anyone know?

Also, I am searching some of the older veggie threads (a lot in car free living for some reason) and am looking for any long trip cycling specific food ideas.

Anyway, I was wondering if there was anyone that made the same sort of leap… I assume most would be for moral reasons or health reasons other than for the hell of it.

Don’t knock it till ya try it, right? So, any thoughts?

nice, nothing wrong with that in my book. Like I said this is an excuse for me to mess around and just experience.

I can't imagine why you wouldn't be able to have olive oil. Do you have a source?

I think long trip cycling foods would be similar: nuts, dried fruit, clif bars (or homemade).

I would recommend a B-12 supplement, or ensure you purchase B-12 fortified items. The same with calcium, unless you know your vegetables are supplying you with enough. Most fortified vegan foods use D2 which is not as well absorbed as the animal-derived D3.

This could be a great time to play around with some new recipes.
