Mountain Biking - WooHoo! Blindsided (in a good way)!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I just got the e-mail before lunchtime today and it is official: I got accepted for sponsorship with Transition for the coming season (!) I am sooooo stoked! Looks like, if all goes well, I will be rockin' a Blindside this year.

Now I have to move a used-one-season Gran Mal, size long, either as a whole bike or a frame/fork +odds-n-ends combo [/shameless spam plug].

Woohoo!

Congrats!

Just out of curiosity. When you get "sponsored", does that mean that you get stuff from them for free? or just discounted?

hee hee.

Sponsorship levels are variable and the terms are eyes only top secret.

Congrats dminor, it seems your hard work has paid off once again.

That's awesome...can't wait to see the build on it. If you do sell the Gran Mal as a complete you got any ideas on what the build is gonna be?

I'll try to post it up tonight. I crunched the grams and pounds in my spreadsheet and, sans the pesky details like cables and assorted small stuff I have no idea about (and using a lot of claimed-weight figures), it should come in just under 40 lbs.

SickLines just did a Blindside build that got it to 37.5 and they said they could go farther down.

Never seen these before, I'm guessing they clip on to the dual crown fork legs?

That looks like it would have a very XC-ish positioning, though

Thanks!

That looks like it would have a very XC-ish positioning, thoughHaha! If you look close you will see that it is a quick-'n-dirty Photoshop job with some real cafe clip-ons. It spawned an ultimate 'joke gone wackadoodle' incident. Ahhh, but I'd be the Kenny Roberts of the DH course ;)

Thank you all. Yes, it will have a new RST R1. It will be bristling with Syncros stuff and I'm going to try the Maxxis Ardent tires in the 3C compound (with a set of High Rollers as fast-rolling backup, of course).

OK - - as promised, here is a preliminary peek at how I'm (so far) planning to build this up. I feel like a roadie geek with all of these gram figures and stuff - - sheesh. I used to just put things together and ride them. [Blame it on LowCel :D] And I used a very rounded .454 conversion of the kg to lbs and a lot of claimed weights:

I was doing a little searching and found this link you (Doug) posted on another site:

Do you know who manufactures their frames? Just curious.

it should come in just under 40 lbs.

Oh hell no!

No way your's is gonna be lighter than mine! It's on!

Mine is at 42.8# now, but I'm adding the floater next week :( Time to get the drill out. Speed holes anyone?

EDIT- doesn't look like you're going w/ the floater?

Actually, Matt, I was going to quiz you on this. Do you think it's a necessity? I never had any undue chatter with the GM and I can't see where the design is that radically different. But maybe I just didn't know what I was missing. I'll look forward to a report when you get yours (Hope you actuallyget it; they're on backorder now).

There's really no good reason to cheap out but, hey, I'm cheap :D

Do you know who manufactures their frames? Just curious.I don't. I've been curious myself. I get the impression the may use more than on depending on the product.

0.82 lbs for a DHX5.0 coil?

0.82 lbs for a DHX5.0 coil?Oops! Went back and read the fine print - - weight without spring. Anybody know the weight of the 8.75's steel spring?

I did a similar thing with my new bike, using manufacturers provided weights and what I deemed generous estimations. Final build came in around 10% over. I am curious to see your results.
