During the week, I have been, and will continue to be, riding a stationary bike at the University gym 2-3 times a week. I do not have access to my real bicycle or my trainer during the week.

But that's OK. I actually don't mind the new stationary bikes, and I'm probably working harder on them than I do on my trainer with the built-in programs they have.

However ... what is with those saddles???? Can we say "Tractor Seat"??? I simply cannot sit properly on those saddles and pedal ... it doesn't work. When I try, I feel like I'm doing the splits while trying to pedal. The only way I can ride those things is to perch on the nose of the saddle ... which actually puts me into a more bicycle-like position anyway. But the saddle isn't designed to be comfortable that way, so my butt is killing me!!

Whose bright idea was it, thinking that those who use stationary bikes would want something you could cinch onto a camel???

I'm very tempted to ask if they've got smaller saddles in a storage closet somewhere.

You must be using the "lifecycle" or similar stationary bike. Look for the belt-resistance, clipless-pedal, decent-saddle bikes. They are around, you just have to look.

If I'm thinking of the same things you are, those are all in the Spinning room where I have my Monday spinning classes. Those saddles are fine.

Oh, speaking of clipless pedal ... what do you suppose prompted the gym to remove all those rubber straps that go on the pedals of these stat bikes (yes, "lifecycle", or something similar)? I am definitely going to ask if those are still around somewhere. There I am roaring up a "hill" with a cadence of 107 ... and my feet go flying off the pedals.

They break easily. They didn’t remove them; they died on their own and weren’t replaced.

Look in the hallway next to the east pool.

Look in the hallway next to the east pool.

Step 1: Find the east pool!

Are you on campus or just familiar with the campus?

I am alumni.

The east pool is in the VV centre.

I'll be in there tomorrow so I'll have a look around. Would the hallway you're talking about be up near the Equipment Rental room and Women's change room?

Found them! They are right in front of the rowing machines I've been using. For some reason I thought that was a row of Monarchs (and two are) but most of them are spinning bikes. There I was rowing today, glanced up, and noticed the clipless-pedals on one.
