Classic & Vintage - What Motobecane did I buy?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Is it a Grand Record or Grand Jubilee? It has the Nervex lugs but I can't make out the tubing sticker on the fork and there doesn't seem to be a model name on the top tube. I'm not too worried, it was cheap and once I get those stickers off I'm pretty sure that I can make a beautiful bike out of it.
Here's the auction link:

Thanks for any help,

I'm not sure of the model, but you got a very good deal. Essentially, you bought a Stronglight crankset for a fair price and got a Moto frameset thrown in for free! Nice!

I would say, just because I have never seen a GR in that particular red and I have seen GJ in that red, you have a Grand Jubilee.

Interesting logic Neal. I know very little about Stronglight except that they still make some pretty pricey items, the older cranks use a proprietary puller, and they were early adopters of needle bearings... Oh, and they're French.

That crankset looks like a model 49D, which usually goes for $60-$100 on eBay. It's not unusual to find frame sellers leaving them on the bikes if they don't have the right sized (23.35mm) puller. I'd guess an LBS with an old guy in the back will be able to get it off for you.
Neal
Good to know. We have the puller at the shop. I'm guessing that this project is going to be kind of a pain unless the BB and headset are in good condition. I might be able to scrape up replacement parts but if I can't then the frame is going to hang for a while.
Wow! just checked out the completed listings on ebay. Nice! Now I'm not sure whether I'll polish it up and sell it or polish it up and ride it...
From the color I'd guess Jubilee. What are the rear dropouts, Huret or Campagnolo?
Though the one Jubilee I had was with Campagnolo dropouts.

I have both a GR and two GJ's. One Jubilee has Campagnolo dropouts and one has Huret. GR's never came with huret... But the best way to tell is if the front fork has forged droputs or stamped... Jubile is stamped.
Paint was the following (during the early years - Nervex lugs... Jubile or Record parts):
Grand Record came in silver/black and black/red
Grand Jubile came in silver/red and red/black
the first color being the primary color on the frame.
I saw that frame last night and thought of buying... but I already have two of these frames!
It seems that the consensus is Jubilee, but I suppose that I will not know for sure until the bike arrives. I would hope that the front drop-out are forged, but I won't cry if they aren't.
Thanks dbarnblatt, when I looked at the picture blown up the frame seems to have a reynolds sticker on it. CR says that the Jubilee has reynolds tubing but doesn't specify whether it is 531 or 501. What are your frames made of?
The Jubilee I had was 531 and black with a red headtube... btw, my friends Grand Record was yellow with black Nervex lugs.

Both of the Jubile frames I have are 531 as well. The earlier yellow/black GR is true... but from an earlier era.... is the "Motobecane" logo on the downtube in a sort of script and not block letters?

Don't know. He crashed it into the back of a parked car about 1973...
No, it's the normal block lettering.
And I'm happy to know that it is 531. Now I have two.
Another Jubilee on ebay, lost the rear derailler:

Yeah, saw that one just after I bought the one I posted. It's a little too big for me, but at least then I wouldn't have to come up with the rest of the parts...
