Does anyone have any idea what model and year this Raleigh 10-speed is?

Raleigh record about 1971 or so (I think) For $15 you can't go wrong. The saddle alone is worth that, It also may have a flip flop rear hub as many early Raleigh's came with them.

Great condition, but it's the Raleigh entry-level 10 speed. Don't go bonkers bidding it up.

IMHO it is worth more in parts than as a rider. Gotta love CL and the sliding price scale based on buyer interest!:p

Yes...I only recently found out about this phenomenon. Let me tell you about a $1200 VW Scirocco that I was interested in, the guy replied that he was overwhelmed with emails and has to rethink the deal. Yep, he's seeing $$$.

Actually, she's being fair about it. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't anything too special. So, it's mild steel, cottered cranks, steel wheels, right? With a set of fenders it would make a decent commuter though.

True on the commuter idea but nothing special. I recently had a Miyata 1000 touring bike for an agreed upon $285 delivered from Denver CL ( Iam near Philly). The seller had just put it on ebay as well and got a zillion messages so much for the $285!:p I can't fault him though but, damn it!

I recently sold an early '90's Mongoose Decade, freshly powdercoated in a sparkly metallic red ($80)...this thing looked niiiiiiiiiice complete with a Euro BB conversion ($30) and new Shimano sealed cartridge BB ($20) wheels, seatpost and a few other misc parts.

I sold it on ebay.

It sold for the starting bid of $0.99.

That was not a happy day for me.

I have the 73 version of that Record. It's a one owner (me). It's an okay commuter but as a vintage rider, the frame doesn't have the feel of a chromoly frame. It's hard for me to explain but it's just not a real fun bike. I used to think it was a really nice bike. :rolleyes: Then I joined BF followed by obtaining my first chromoly, quad butted vintage road bike and found out what I was missing.
I don't know what that Record will bring, but around here they go for about $50-$80 in that condition.
EDIT: Maybe a little higher because of that saddle.

Thanks for the information. I guess that $50 to $80 is fair, any more than that and I'd have to decline. This bike suits what I need which is a sturdy, cheap transmodal commuter.

If I had gotten a deal like this, it would have been shipped USPS w/o tracking and "lost" :rolleyes: in the mail. Seller would have cheerfully refunded my money for all my trouble. ;)

I love the idea, but I didn't even think about that. I did check with FedEx and they assured me that the package did arrive in Gastonia, NC yesterday. I just hope the buyer leaves me good feedback. :rolleyes:

Back to the Raleigh. I picked it up last night for $30. In talking to the seller, she said her husband was mad because he just put $25 in new tires and tubes and would at least like to get his money back. The bike is in beautiful condition and the tires are indeed brand new. I asked her if $30 was ok and she was fine with it.

I don;t think it has a flip-flop hub, but it does have a peculiar grooved end on the non-drive side. It almost looks as if it could be threaded on to the hub body.
