I sort of posted this question in another thread but I wanted to get some more input on it.

I did my first 60 mile ride and i felt pain in my lungs, chest/shoulders towards the 3/4th point of the ride to the end, nothing excruciating just annoying. At the end of the ride when I got home my legs felt fine but my chest and throat were what was hurting. Its been two days and the pain is almost gone but I'm kind of surprised to find it lingering this long.

I figured it was from 4 hours of heavy breathing and my diaphragms were overly worked, i didn't feel a shortness of breath just a soreness of the throat and chest muscles. Is this at all common, has it happened to any of you when you push your self to a new level.

Yup, happened to me when I started doing long mtn bike rides. Worst one was 70 miles of single-track riding with 12000 (yes, 12K) of climbing. I had a terribly sore throat after that. It hurt worst along two lines going down my throat. I could actually see little burst vessles when I shined a flashlight there. It went away after 2-4 days.

I've also experienced mild chest pain, which mostly comes from irritation and inflamation of the chestwall due to the prolonged and radid deep breathing. I would not be overly concerned unless the pain doesn't go away, you cough up anything odd or something like that.

What was the weather like?

And I still say you should see a Dr. Could be a touch of bronchitis. Could be EIA. Could just be a by-product of inhaling dry air.

the air was cool and dry.
