(Repost from Track)
Hey everyone,

I just came into contact with a Romic pursuit bike from the mid-90's, similar to this one:
http://velospace.org/files/IMG_2415.jpg
Swervy Reynolds 708, long top tube, 78 degree seat tube, etc, bottom bracket tuned by USA national team mechanic at Olympic trials pre-1996, spindle will spin for 5-7 seconds if spun, hasn't been touched since.

It has some paint scuffs that I want to clean up. I'm undecided whether I should try to touch them up as they are and spot treat them, or powder coat the bike. If I were to powder coat it, I was wondering if any of you happen to know the contact info for Romic because I'd like to maintain the original decals and was thinking they might have some around, maintaining the World Championship stripes found on the seat tube, etc.

Thanks,

Steve

Is your bike as messed up as that one?

By messed up you mean wheelset, bars, etc?

No, mine is just a frame, fork, bb, seat post, seat.

The frame is supposed to look like that? I thought the bike in the photo was in a crash.

Haha, yeah it's supposed to look like that. It was a world championship winning pursuit frame in the mid-90's, hence the championship stripes.

Here's some other examples of swervy pursuit frames:

funny every bike in this thread so far has serious setup problems.

Is it supposed to have a 650 front wheel? The head angle looks wicked slack and its got to be the longest track bike I've ever seen. I think a Schwinn Varsity is shorter.

wow that ST angle doesn't seem like it'll be pleasant on long rides

that's why the OP's posted bike looks so weird. it has a 700 when it should have a 650. that would completely change all the angles and it wouldn't look so weird. just tilt your head a little to the right! ;)

it needs to be about 8cm larger.

Maybe it's just the camera angle, but that Romic looks like it actually has a 700C front and a 650C REAR. Please move it to the jackass thread posthaste (that smoky thread really could use a refreshing kick to the pants, such as this bike would provide).

I don't want to hate but that frame hurts my eyes! the others have some set up issues but the frames are elegant and smooth but the Romic just aint. I'm sure it'll be a blast and fun and I'm not a form over function guy but I just don't like that.

the angles are a bit strange... and that tommasini makes my balls hurt.

Yeah but they look cool, who cares that they are meant to be ridden on a velodrome in time trials?

Let me clarify that the black Romic posted is not my bike. I have that same frame and am going to start a build. Yes, I will be running a 650cc front wheel, which the frame was designed for.

The frame was given to my by an Olympiad who has raced in over 40 countries, with this being one of his bikes.

Does anyone have any applicable feedback to the question of how can I get in contact with Romic?

Romic was based out of houston and i dont think he's made frames for at least 10 years.

i seem to remember hearing he had died, but i could be making that up

Super sick bikes. If you search google deeply enough, theres a site somewhere with contact info, though im sure its not current.

The builder was from Texas and died in (or around) 1997. I raced on on a velodrome, good bike. I haven't seen anything new from them in over 10 years. Good luck.

As the residing Romic expert on this forum (the only one who has one), The company is not around anymore so do not powdercoat the frame. Try some kind of car detail touch up paint from pepboys or some ****. Romics are amazingly well made it would be best if you kept it original...

here one way i have had mine set up....

Despite the obvious sizing issues, this bike is fresh and I would rock it in a second. In my size, of course.

Seriously, just sell that thing to a track racer and get yourself a Kilo TT.
