Classic & Vintage - Cottered Aluminum Crankarms

I pulled these out the other day. True cottered aluminum crankarms. I bought them a few years ago from another collector. No brand name on them, but they came with these TA rings. Hope to use them on something.

I saw a set of cottered aluminum cranks on eBay last week. This was evidently one short-lived evolutionary dead end. For your own safety, be careful when using them!

TA made their own VERY odd alloy semi-cottered crankset too. Yet another stumbling block along the way. I could never understand the concept of these odd cranks - which even required a unique proprietary spindle and bolt system. I guess this did eliminate the need for bashing down or extracting a tapered cotter with a mallet, but why bother at all after cotterless cranks were already so successful in the marketplace? I think the main feature of the TA version was the adjustability of placement of the arms on the spindle for perfecting the chainline.

stay away from hills.

I found a set of aluminum TA cranks, didn't buy they though.
Even though now I think that they would be just so funky paired with the campagnolo skiptooth chain ring that they had for track bikes a long time ago.

I had a set kicking round the garage and was curious as to their provenance. Gotta say the alloy finish on the arms and chainwheels is incredibly lustrous - polishes up like SS.
