go with the Fisher. Although the '04 tassajaras are Ugly! Try and get one of the '03s they look sharp!!

when i'm on my bike i'm always thinking about what's ahead of me rather than how my bike looks.
i have a 04 tassajara. it looks fine. it's got two wheels, a saddle, pedals, and some other bits. and it propelled me to 22nd place of 77 riders in my first mtb race on saturday. not too bad considering most everyone else had "sharp" looking bikes with fancy XT and XTR bits all over the place.
go with the Fisher. Although the '04 tassajaras are Ugly! Try and get one of the '03s they look sharp!!

If you compare the specs, they are almost the same bike (doesn't trek actually own GF? I know the frames come from the same place). If they don't feel any different, then you have your choice between prettiness and price, otherwise go based on comfort.

Trek owns Gary Fisher, and since both bikes are at the same price point, they are almost exact with the exception of paint and geometry. You should really test ride both bike and find out which is more comfortable for you.
The Trek uses a more traditional approach to their geometries, whereas the GF uses "Genisis Geometry" which utilizes a longer top-tube and shorter chainstays. Generally, people with longer torsoes prefer the Genisis Geometry. Personally, I don't like it, but then again I'm not the one buying the bike. Both are great bikes for the money and there is nothing wrong with either one.
