Moreno Argentin was a class act. Won some big races. Here's some memories of Argentin

1986 - Wins world road championship in the USA riding one of the few Bianchis that I ever thought looked cool.
1990 - Wins the Ronde von Vlaandren with a dominating ride in his Italian champions jersey.
1987 - Catches Roche and Criquelion at the death in Liege-Bastogne-Liege and wins (wearing the gheyest looking world champions jersey of all time). An example why you should never give up the chase.
1991 - His LBL and Fleche Wallonne double. Wins the Fleche with an 80km solo in the rain.
1983 - Cries after Lemond rides away from him in the world championship, ruining the Italian teams plans.
1984 - Gets revenge on Lemond by not working with him in the world champs in Barcelona
1993 - delibrately brakes at the finish of an early season race in Italy so he won't have to stand on the podium with some obnoxious Texan called Lance Armstrong.
1992 - Destroys field on the poggio in Milan-Sanremo, only to be caught by a rampaging Sean Kelly in sight of the finish line.

In desparation, begs Kelly to let him win... denied.

Argentin was the best bike rider there, but Kelly was too ruthless, cunning and quick for him.:D Argentin was normally cool as a cucumber but I reckon he put too much pressure on himself on the day, panicked, and put in a crap descent into Sanremo The motorbikes holding him up on the climb didn't help either.

I just always respected sprinters that could climb like Kelly, Zabel and Jalabert...even if his morph into a stage racer was likely epo-driven.

lol. I was gonna mention Ferrari, but all the Armstrong lovers would have come out to flame me how he was 'misunderstood'. Did you ever see Furlans win in Milan-Sanremo? He was about the only rider in the field using downtube levers and he just rode away from them. I may be wrong but I believe its still the fastest ascent of the poggio ever. Furlan was never the same again after 94. I wonder why?:rolleyes:;)

that's it.....flat topped fork crown with the hand-painted "De Rosa" in white on the lugs, Ugo's signature on teh top-tube. 3/4 chrome forks, drive-side chrome chainstay. Magnificent....shame it was Dura-Ace, deserved C-Record w/delta brakes. SGR pedals might've even tipped it over 13kgs!!

Nothing wrong with the Merak Matty White had at Vini-Caldirola, just the soft touch paint was a b@stard if you got grease on it.

10v Record and the fat Deda Newton bars and stem......both droolworthy @ the turn of the century.

I put a bloke I know onto a Merak on Grays online about 12 months ago. $1600 for frame and fork. The importer went bust or something. Carbon stays (later than Whites). It looked fugly as a frame but looks good with the latest carbon record and Eurus on it.

Saw them on a Rossin at Bike House when Damian Grundy was running it in about 1989. Bewdiful hand-painted, fluted Columbus SLX, full C-Record and those dopey pedals. They had some pointless ratchet or whatever in them so they were always parallel to the ground for "ease of entry"....sounds like something you'd read on a condom wrapper. :D

What did they weigh? 700gms or something? Campag hasn't got a good track record on pedals - SGR, Profit. A mate of mine pulled a foot in a scratch race at Warragul with his 'Profit' pedals. It ended messy with him sliding down the back straight on his arse. He went back to toeclips and straps. Then there was Weseman having problems two years staight in Paris-Roubaix. Zabel pulling a foot in a sprint in the Tour.....
