Hi
about 6 months ago I saw some posts and then got some PMs about
track bikes in PINK
track bikes in real small sizes
track bikes in real large sizes
So I ordered PINK Messengers and Messengers in 43c and 64c
Pink & small just arrived [pink is in 43, 49, 52, and 54]
43c also comes in blue & orange
Plus 64c in Blue and Orange are on the way and will be in about March 1st
Then about a month ago I got requests for Kilo TT in Purple
and in 55c and in smaller and bigger sizes
That is also taking 6 months - but will be coming
I think it is good that forum members can request what they would like to see and effect product availability -

are these colors (pink, purple, etc) going to be available in mid-range sizes as well?

WHEN WE GET THE KILO TT IN PURPLE - IT WILL BE IN 47,50,53,55,57,60,63
also working on Platinum OX frames with wider tire room
and a single speed cyclo cross with wide sizes and more colors

when will the kilo tt pro be available? also, you said before that you were thinking about making a platinum ox road bike - i know this isn't the forum for this question, but how is that shaping up?

I think pink and purple bikes are entirely appropriate for male riders as well, if not more, than for females.

what's the geometry on the 43? TT length?
Most of the tiny bikes (height-wise) I've found still have comparably long top tubes. (50cm+)
700c or 650c wheels?

Thanks, these look great. I'd buy a 59cm Kilo TT Pro in that lavender colour in a heartbeat.

If you put horizontal dropouts with derailer hangers on that ss cross bike, you will sell tons of them. I wholeheartedly recommend that.

YES
but like all changes and/or additions it takes 6 months to come in
lead times are rather long in the bike biz right now

I am doing purple in Kilo TT
and when we do the fat tire friendly frameset in 520 or platinum OX
we may just do the entire rainbow
if the factory will work with us on qty / per color
i'd like to have black, silver, white, orange, red, pink, purple, green, yellow, and chrome
but that may have to be split in different production runs

This is an awesome setup for erveryone -
And you might be surprised at who in ther bike industry I credit for doing this first
30 years ago all the components on bikes came from companies like Campy, Huret, Simplex, Normandy, Weinmann, etc
Then these Japanesse guys and their boss Mr Shimano started showing up everywhere in Europe and America with cameras and note pads. They did the damest thing which no Euro company ever did: They ask customers what they wanted! And they ask cyclists what they liked! And they ask bike shops what needed improvement! They actually wanted the opinions of users of products. Which no European company really actually acted like they wanted or cared about.
I see forums as the newest and most modern way to get customer feedback and act on it quickly. True it still takes 6 months to get spec changes and get items made. But the actual ideas of consumers can be gathered very quickly - for those that care to listen.
A few months ago; I got the input of customers wanting SS with 4130 tubing, bull horns, brakes, 28c tires, fender mounts, aheadset, high flange sealed, dbl wall rims and under $300 -- by late this spring or early summer we will have it. That is very fast developement and bringing to market of a bike or anything.
I love the internet

I assume you mean with changing rear spacing to 130mm - correct?

I wonder if you could do like limited edition framesets. Like have black and green in stock all the time, but maybe every few months or so stock another kilo that is a limited edition color/feature. For example, maybe for the summer months you could have a limited edition running of a chrome kilo with narrow tire clearances and Platinum OX. Then for the winter months (when more people start to want wider tire clearances) Sell a white kilo in 520 with wider tire clearances and threadless fork. You could have a frameset for every season! I don't know if what I just said is even plausible because I don't know how the business works, but I think it may be cool.
Also, there has been some discussion about what the geometry of the kilo tt actually is. Most people are saying that it has the same geo as the KHS Flite 100, but Mercier's geometry sheet says differently. could you clear up for us exactly what the geometry of the kilo tt is?

132.5 on a steel bike. That way you can run mtn bike hubs if you want.

43cm and 45cm NEED to have 650c wheels, horizontal top tubes and short head tubes. Without smaller wheels they will fit like crap..just like the small Surly sizes. My friend has had a lot of trouble with both her bikes because she can't get low enough as the sloped top tube encourages incorrect frame sizing. She's 4'10". Sam

+1 for smaller frames geared toward shorter women with 650c wheels. My sister is 5'3" and is looking into a ~47cm (equivalent) women's model. The best fitting bikes for her have 650c wheels, which allow for a nice short top tube without making the head tube way slack. It's great some of the bigger companies are producing smaller women's frames. The average height (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_height) of a woman in the US is around 5'3", but the appropriate women specific geometry frame (w/650c wheels, short top tube, acceptable angles) that I have seen are generally the second smallest size, leaving only one size for anyone below the average, which is a significant proportion of the female population.

I was thinking about getting my gf the 43 cm motobecane, but the quote above scares me a bit. Bikesdirect, is there any chance that you could post a photo or two of the 43cm with an appropriately sized rider just so that we have a better idea of the proportions?

Modern carbon-fiber frame design should enable designers to make smaller frames with normal 700c wheels (a curved "downtube" for example could shorten the top tube significantly). I don't think it's an issue of design or technology but bad marketing.

You are right about the geometry, just wanted to say that you can do the same with hydroformed aluminum alloys.
dear bikes_direct, you guys don'y sell just frame&fork of any of these bikes, do you?

It's really a matter of proportions. Should a rider that's 4'10" use the same size wheels as one who's 6'3"?
I also believe for much taller riders there could be a larger option created. Find a Picture of a 66cm+ frame and you'll see why; the frame dwarfs the wheels and the head tube is obscenely long usually causing shimmy. Strange that there's many different sizes of wheels for types of bikes, but not for SIZES of bikes.
I almost forgot: find a track bike in a super small size that doesn't compromise angles or other geometry w/o toe overlap. Otherwise I like the Kilo TT the middle range fits as it should and how many bright green bikes are there? Sam

Clear coat is pourous, so it will just end up rusting, that is why you prime AND paint. The clear is just an additional layer of protection, and allows for a somewhat softer layer, as paint tends to be rather brittle, hence, chips.
However, I have done this on a bike and the rust is minimal, and it makes cool sinewy veins of surface rust, a somewhat cool effect, but realize you want to have it blasted and painted or powdercoated a year or two after.
