This dispute has been going on for some time. I grew up literally 100 yards from the area in question. In my opinion the entire opposition to bikers is coming from a very small group (7 people) of horse back riders who are big contributors to the local politicians. They have used lies about the bikers themselves and lies about the "science" of the local environment.
Intrusion like this is one reason why I now spend 4 months of the year in Montana. It seems as though every single thing that is fun is banned in the LA area after complants from a tiny fraction of the community.
Just in case anyone cares....Montana has thousands of miles of the most amazing mountain biking in America and its cheap, pristine and no government agencies banning everything you do.

Not surprising. It only takes one kid to ban Christmas.

"Sheriff's Lt. Jason Lum said he was aware the remote area would be difficult to access, but noted that an equestrian posse and an off-road team with motorcycles and buggies plan to patrol the preserve."

So MTB's, horses, and walkers are prohibited... and now the police get their own private amusement park for trail riding using MOTORS. Which one is worse for the environment?

I do agree with conserving the property by limiting the new trails that can be created. sometimes people have a tendency to walk over areas and create a trail where there does not need to be one.

At least they didn't just pick on Mtb's...
