Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - been awhile since i started a new thread...

i just got back from the phantom limbs show.

i rocked my pink lotus trackie there. went out for a few beers before and after the show.

on the way home, we spotted a carousel horse in someone's trash (i guess i'ts big trash day in berkeley). my friend wanted it, and luckily, i was drunk enough to say i could carry it with my bag. so off we rode! with the pony strapped to my back! my my, things get heavy after a time.


now, i cut to the chase!!!!

THE CHASE:

WHAT IS THE HEAVIEST THING YOU'VE EVER CARRIED ON YOUR BACK!?!!?!

mine was my theremin to and from school on my mountain.trials bike.

thirtytwo pounds of tools in a backpack. I weighed it when I got home.

The heaviest thing I've ever carried would be when I rode back from the farmer's market with 1 large watermelon, a bag of potatoes, a bag of peaches, and some broccoli. Didn't anticipate buying that much, otherwise would've brought the trailer! But challenges are fun. Don't know how much it weighed, but you can bet both my shoulders and axles were screaming. This all fit in a Chrome Metropolis bag.

The second heaviest would probably be a full filebox prbly 30 lbs? or so.

A frame and 2 sets of wheels...

Case and a half of returnables... Leinenkugel's. Pulled them from the box and put them in a backpack. Tied the empty box to the back of the bag.

well, i was riding since i didn't want to lock my bike up at school. but i was able to carry 15 books from the library, a sweatshirt and a few bottles of water while skateboarding home. i am just surprised how much versatility my bag has. i also carried 20 bottles of water from an event because i drink water like crazy.

i was at that show...

and my heaviest load would probably be a large zo bag full of hardcover books...

the limbs are good, but that show was weird...

i saw the cruiser... i usually spend a bit checking out bikes at those kind of shows, but i was busy doing bull**** through most of that show... phantom limbs were fun, but i was actually way more into marathon and nakatomi plaza that night... howver seeing the singer from scurvy bastards get "the face butt sandwich" from singer of phantom limbs was highly entertaining...

and sadly i didn't have my bike there that night so i can't ask if you saw it...

I'm with 165 on this. I carried my cannondale road bike while on my track. not heavy just awkward. OneTinSloth: post a pic of a pink lotus? I've never seen one. jeff.

it IS pink, and it IS a track frame...sorry about the low-res pic. my camera kinda sucks. maybe i'll take some close-ups of some of the details (headbadge, decals, dropouts, et c.) sometime soon.

gally: the cruiser is my girlfriend's. it is squeaky.

A case of beer (in bottles). I was making some serious racket going down the road. I had to take the bottles out of the box to make them fit into my backpack.

It was worth it.

two weeks worth a groceries, plus a wheel. Not to heavy to make it home, but damn that wheel was a pain to fit on my bag.

Yeah, I've carried some heavy loads back from the market, definitely enough that my shoulders said no. The worst was probably all the supplies for a BBQ for 25 of my fellow herbivores ('cept the beer, of course). I often haul 35 lb of groceries (like 5 5lbs bags of flour plus misc other stuff), but the all time worst was the supplies for an on site catered dinner for 40. One of these days I'll bite the bullet and get panniers.

I'm not sure about the weight but I had a full change of clothes (jeans, t-shirt, running top - for the cool air), a pair of skate shoes, U-lock + cable, three sketchbooks, an SLR and a digital camera, a 5lb. bag of cat food, posters from the Renegade Craft Fair (in Chicago, anyone go to that? saw quite a few fixies and SS's around) and my skateboard. A Timbuk2 saved my life. Gotta love messenger bags.

83 pounds of groceries. I went about two miles per hour the whole six miles home...

I swear reading these posts makes me want a chiropractor(sp?). Your backs must be made out of steel

absntr- messenger bags rule for skateboards, I never figured out why I never see more of 'em wear 'em. Too bad I can barely ollie, I'll stick to working on trackstands

i actually just realised that i helped my girlfriend carry home some aquarium supplies from the pet shop a few times. gravel and other large rocks and a few other bulky items. plus my tools, and her lock.

*sigh*

Don't know if we want to consider the type of riding we did with our heaviest load. That would be our Central Coast tour of California. Big Sur.
All four panniers full and rack carrying stuff like tent, sleeping bag, pad. It was over 40 lbs..Got heavier towards end of each days ride because we had a need for wine, beer, or bottled water. Load got as great as 50 lbs.
Worst day of climbing. Second day of BIg Sur. Climbed about 9,000 ft. total for the day.

not cycled, but 24kg returning home from israel with added nargile, plus my camera-and-assorted-shi+e bag [5ish kg on a good day].

damn backpackers.

they should get a fu<king job. and a fu<king haircut.
