Southern California - Back on the bike

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Today was my first time on the bike since the 13th of Jan. Hand surgery has kept me in pain and a cast'splint thing has kept me one handed. No more! Took off this afternoon for a 13 mile loop through the city and pushed myself hard. Nice to see I stil have somethin gin me, so hopefully I can get back to it on a normal schedule. It was icky cold though. I need to invest in long sleeved jerseys ona jacket I suppose.
So how are the rest of you wounded out there?

Nice to hear, Robert. Let us know how it goes, because it's a fascinating topic to me. I am beginning to buy into the whole occasional rest weeks philosophy. Between all the rain and a pulled muscle, I barely rode at all the last 2 weeks of January. I was (neurotically) worried that I lost a lot of juice... but jumping back in this week felt great.

Thanks. I'm not fully recovered yet. My left hand is weak and it looks like frankenstein. It takes some effort to hold on, pull the brakes. I have one more surgery in April to graft in a new tendon. Should be good as new after that. But I actually do think some occasional rest time is good. Sometimes we really do need a bit of time off.

I took my first real ride today too. I tore my hamstring in mid December. Today I was on the bike for one hour, which was really big. Tomorrow I'm going to try it again. I know exactly how you feel because I felt the same way today. It was fantiastic to be back in the saddle again. My only problem was I couldn't come close to hammering. Little teeny tiny baby steps for me.

Indeed, come back from that hamstring slowly, but strong!!
