Fifty Plus (50+) - Hello from a prodigal son...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hello all. I didn't know whether to post my first words in here or the "Classics/Vintage" forum. :)
I'm 52 years old. I was an avid roadie for many, many years, but gave it up about 15 years ago. I have decided it's time to get back in the saddle. I'm slowly getting my gear collected, buying a few new pieces (hard to find shorts and jerseys in XXXL). My Bridgestone RADAC 3100 was upper end when I quit riding, but sadly appears to fit more into the retro-classic group now - 7-speed Dura Ace and all.
Anyway, just wanted to say hey, and glad that I found this forum. I'll try to take a pull now and then, but give me some time to work my way back into it.

Here's a place that advertises larger sizes: http://www.aerotechdesigns.com/classic.htm. Good luck and welcome.
Welcome back. Now git on out there and ride! :)

Don't let anyone tell you that you need a white carbon fiber bike. They know not of what they speak. Welcome.
Hi,
LL Beans has bicycle jerseys that should fit. Their 2X is huge.

They're not cheap, but these are the shorts I wear, they do custom as well.

If they throw things out because they're old - we are in a lot of trouble! Dura Ace 7 speed is fine - get her cleaned up and start riding.
Welcome, post some pictures, and stay a while.

Welcome to this group. My friend started at 275 in July '07n and is now at 235 on his way to 205. All from riding and watching his diet.

Even 50% white causes a problem- You have to keep cleaning it instead of riding
Now the reference to "Classics/Vintage"- Does that refer to the rider or the bike?

You need a new bike. I'll take the old one.
Welcome back!! You will really love the different technologies these days-and yes inflation is alive and well in cycling, too. More choices but bring your bank account!!

Why spend the money? There is absolutely nothing wrong with a high-caliber older bicycle, and his is not even that old. Whenever I have trouble keeping up with my club, the blame lies with the 57-year-old rider, not the 49-year-old bike.
Welcome back! You've come to the right place.

Thanks for the warm welcome folks.
The current ride will do. My biggest issue right now is that my legs and lungs can't push the straight block cluster I had on this bike when I quit riding. I'm going to have to find a new 7-speed cassette or two with a bit more realistic ratios.
Thanks again,
