I have just gotten a pair of Sidi shoes and was wondering should I wear socks when riding?

I tried them today for a very short time without and must admit, they felt great, but I am concerned as I'm going to ride abot 30-40 miles in the morning to give them a good run, and dont want to hurt my feet :(

Should I take a pair with me

I wear ankle socks. I like the look of no socks but cannot imagine not wearing them all together. BTW, I have Sidis also and the ankles work out quite well.

Knee high socks for me:) No, I usually just use my regular socks that are maybe 1.5 inches above the ankle. I would get some of those coolmax socks or whatever, but for the price of one of those I can get 5 pairs of regular ones. I tried going sockless initially but it felt like my feet were in a swamp after a few hours.

This brings up a question I had about socks...Firstly, any particular brands people out there are using? I'm in the market for some socks for my new shoes and could use some advice. I like the defeet brand, and I also like the cut of the ankle sock. However, I was wondering specifically what material do you find works best? I've seen them in polyester, merino wool (which i think would be a less stinky alternative, but i wonder how they'd be in heat), as well as coolmax. Any opinions?

SmartWool RBX racer...

best cycling sock I know of, has to be washed by hand, and gently at that.

I also like Defeet the best. They're breathable, comfy, and definitely look the best by far (at least to me).

With my Sidi's I always wear socks usually the low Coolmax type. I need the socks cause I have narrow feet and the socks do a great job as a filler. On the other hand my riding partner never wears socks with his Sidi's and swears by it. It's a personal preference.

Give your shoes a break and wear socks! Defeet and Coolmax and Performance are all good times and great fun.

Funny.......seems like this is turning into a pro-sock thread. We just had a lengthy anti-sock thread a couple months back here on this very subject.
I don't wear socks with my Sidis.

I can't imagine riding without socks....its amazing that people can have such differing ideas on common subjects.

Sorry, I did a search on socks and didn't find anything. I did buy some today and they worked great, by the way, I went out today with my new stuff, Selle Italia Flite gel Ti, Egg Beaters and my Sidi shoes :D .
I rode 30 miles in 1h:57:26 (by my Astrale 8) lots of hills and good headwind and still knocked off nearly 10 mins from last weeks ride with my toe clip pedals, tennis shoes and crappy Bell saddle :(

Everyone here has helped me so much that I'd like to thank you all (no..I'm not trying for an Oscar ;) ) You made buying a new bike and upgrading it a breez  .

Now, it's time to get serious, and get some good riding done :p

Thanks again everyone

I usually wear Wigwam Ultimax triathlete socks. Pretty thin, but maybe a tad long for most people's preferences.

Defeet also makes nice socks. I particularly like their socks with shark designs.

i tried to ride a while ago w/o socks and got a blister really easily on one foot. I'm currently using the euro sock brand bike specific socks... they're really good.
